    Move from VM to Satellite

    Hi Guys
Due to the Nag 3 wipe-out on VM I am looking at moving into the satellite world, the only problem is I have no idea what box I need get to receive all the ?best channels?.
Ideally I would like a receiver box that plays HD and has the ability to record.
Would a free view satellite dish be ok or would I need a sky dish?
Please help any advice would be great.

    Regards

to get the best out of it you would be better off getting at least a 80cm dish but if you are up north a 1 metre dish and put a motor on it to get the best possible choice there are so many boxs out there it will depend on how much you want to spend and if you want a plug and play or a linux box

          Hi
By best channels I mean the channels that you would normally have to subscribe too but can get without subscribing.

          Cheers

mate dont worry it is just a new encryption but as we know from previous encryptions nothing is unfixable in time

Do you have a dish or ever had a dish on your house? If not time to get your drill out?

Sky dishes can work motorised or alternatively, if you can't afford a motorised set up, a multi-lnb set up is a good alternative with lots of choice of channels to watch.

I would always advised on a multi sat set up as the amount of providers out there we hope there will always be something to watch.

Yes you feed all the lnbs into a diseqc switch. I have mine gaffer taped to the back of my dish! The switch then has one coax that goes to the receiver.

You set the receiver to tell it what ports you have put the various lnbs on and hey presto loads more channels to watch. Instant changing as well unlike motorised satellites and you can run multiple boxes of the lnbs if you buy dual or quad lnbs!

You can get diseqc switches that can work with 16 lnbs.

a 4 way diseqc switch you can get for about ?3.50 off ebay

do you have to have a big dish to do this? as i have a standard sky dish pointing at 28.2

You might be able to sandwich and lnb on the side for 19e. I was going to do some experiments with a set up like this and see what signal / quality levels I could get.

Depending if you happy changing the mount, you could motorise the little dish also but obviously more money.
