Unable to Connect Dreambox to PC

Ive bought a Null Modem Cable but am having trouble connecting to it from my PC. Keep getting the following error "Connection Prepared, now switch on the dreambox. I connect the null modem cable first then press connect and that message comes so i insert the power cable but no luck stays at that message.
Can anyone help?

You don't say what box it is dm500 or dm800 and what are you trying to do? does the box boot up fully?

Using Dm500s its that little black box, and it does power on theres a green light on the front. Ive just got the box yday and the cable today trying to flash an image to it.

And dreamer lemme have a quick go at the guide you posted

But does the box boot up? can you get to the menu's on the screen? if you can check the ip addy it has been given and just flash it using a ethernet cable via your router
Flashing Via Telnet

To telnet, click START > RUN and type Telnet ip.address.of.dreambox
A command window will appear, enter username root and password dreambox.
This method will only work with a .img image file.

* Rename the image file to backup.img
* FTP the image file to the /tmp folder on the dreambox
* Telnet to your box and paste the following command:

cd /tmp && eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp backup.img /dev/mtd/3 && reboot
once finished reboot the box

Ok sorry to sound abit stupid but what is telnet i tried entering "telnet 192.***.*.**" but gives me an error

are the ports on your pc genuine ones or usb to serial adapters? they are known to give issues. what level of dreamup are you using? do a search for this "Dreambox_500s_toolbox_by_Slipknot.rar" and use the dreamup in that and see how it goes. hope this helps
