I am looking to buy a dreambox for my mobile home. However there is no electricity supply other than that from batteries. I do not want to run with an inverter as it seems silly to convert 12v to 240v if the 12v can run direct. I have a 12v tv but the normal reception is useless so I am looking to run with sat.
Is it possible to run a Dreambox from a 12v battery

Smoking Dreambox
Just an update on my OP regarding running a box from a 12v battery.
Well my new DM500s box arrived today and I thought I would try it out. I set it up on the mains supply and got all the channels. Then I proceeded to cut the wire supply after the transformer (Uplugged it first). Put a couple of crocodile clips on the wires and connected it to the battery. Nothing for a few seconds then plumes of smoke from within the box. After ripping the clips from the battery I began to realise that on the caravan wiring WHITE = EARTH. Guess I am lucky as once the smoke cleared and I connected the wires to the correct terminals the box still worked.
Thought I would share the experience in case someone else has the same idea. It may prevent a fire or at least save a box.Comment

rather than cut the wire you should have stripped and seperated them first. found out which one is positive (most likely the black wire with a stripe) Also verify this on the DC jack. center pin would normally be + and outside would be -. then after you make your connections to the battery check again.
You most likely blew a electrolytic cap inside the dreambox. If if still works it will be fine on a DC battery but you may get box crashes on the AC supply if the external powersupply is unfiltered/ noisey. (they usually are cheap and nasty)Comment

or just use one of these mate no need for any hacking of wires
just simply plug into cigarette charger
