    What equipment do I need?

    Hi People,

I used to have the box super and it served me well for a couple of years, however there all finished through cable and virgin or so I believe.

I have an old SKY dish outside my house which has been there ever since I moved in. I was thinking of getting a dreambox as I've heard you cann connect this to a dish to recieve SS1 and movies etc.

There are a few things I was wondering say my satellite was still pointing at all the correct sky satellites which I presume it is otherwise sky would have to go round and adjust satellite from some of its older customers could I just run a cable from it to my dreambox and it would work fine?

And also is this all I need a satellite and a dreambox? or do I need a card also, and if so how much are the cards? is it a one off fee if you need a card. I'm just doing some reasearch as I'm hoping to get myself up and running in the next 5 weeks before the football season starts.

    Thanks Joe

Can I just ask aswell yano the twin tuner feature does this mean the box has 2 outputs? So you could just run some cable directly into your TV upstairs? is that right?

Sorry to be a pain I just need to know something else, thought i'd put it here rather than start a new thread.

Ok so my satellite is positioned correctly, and I but a dreambox 800 HD and connect it to the dish.

Now I've done this without a card what channels can I expect to get? the sports and movies or just the free to air?

I've read some topics saying it's just free to air but these are like 18 months old and maybe the DM800 can get around this. Thanks

You are right all you can expect to get is Free To Air but you may want to Google 'cardsharing on dm800'.

Thanks mate, the previous guy said I didn't need a card, is it possible to get the movies and the sports but there's no guarantees?

Can you pick up foreign footy from your sky dish using the csharing?

yes its possible, no theres no guarantees. you CAN pick up foreign footy from your sly dish, but it would mean manually turning it from one sat to another if you wanted to go from say footy on 19.2 to sky 1 on 28.2e.
avatar is shadow demon from 'dungeons and dragons'
twin tuner means two INPUTS, so you can watch one channel and record another like sly+
ANY linux box can get round encryption via c/s. BUT its a banned subject on here,
best bet. buy a box, then come back and we will help you set it up
ideal starter box would be a dm 500s, around ?50 from china
