    DM500HD or DM800HD

I know this question has been covered on this forum and other forums but I'm torn between which receiver to buy so though I'd ask your opinion...

I'm new to the sat scene and I'm going to buy a dreambox to connect to my current sky dish in the first instance then invest in a motorised dish at a later date.

Anyways, I'm after a box where I can use c/s and customise over time. I'd like hd but not essential. I've read that the 500s is a great starter box but is outdated now, so I've narrowed it down to the 500HD or the 800HD. I don't want to buy a box which will be outdated in a years time.

Also from reading up I need a sim 2 box - is this correct?

    Thanks in advance guys...
    Phil

2: no info on google abt the pace sv5 rang asda they have no idea what i was talking about,
3: Your total contribution to this forum, bordering on trolling, seems to have been a collection of snipes, one liners & asterisked expletives

Thanks guys. I'm now leaning towards the DM800. Is this current? I.e. won't be out of date in a years time.

Also the ones I've seen advertised are clones but based on what I've read that isn't a bad thing. I've seen them on Ukdreamshop which sound like a reputable company but a lot of people recommend Tony from Yaoxincn, but when I've emailed for a price (on several occasions) I've had no response. Any other recommended suppliers?

        Thanks again guys

Just the post I was looking for - I have a DM500-s, and want HD, so I need to upgrade.

The DM800 looks good, but why doesn't it come with HDMI? I thought that was the direction of all new hardware.

Is there a Dreambox that comes with a HDMI connection?

The key features of the DM500 HD include the powerful 400 MHz processor as well as the Linux operating system. The 10/100 Mbit compatible Ethernet connection allows you to integrate the receiver in your home network, or to enjoy Internet connectivity.
The back panel provides the DVB-S2 tuner as well as a Mini-USB interface for software updates as well as an eSata connection, allowing you to expand the capabilities of the DM500 HD to that of a PVR by connecting to an external hard drive. In addition, the Dreambox comes equipped with an HDMI as well as with an optical digital sound output. The front panel provides a smartcard reader.
The compact size of the DM500 HD deserves special mention. Its dimensions of only 195 x 130 x 40 mm (WxDxH) make it particularly suitable for discreet installation in the living room. Its power consumption, too, is minimal, with a consumption of only twelve Watts during operation, and less than one Watt in standby mode.
Compact and powerful ***8211; those are the features of the DM500 HD. The new Dreambox provides HDTV with razor-sharp images and brilliant colours. The option of an external hard drive makes it child***8217;s play to record television programmes

basically its got a faster processor better tuner compared to the 800hd although i see you can get the 800hd with the se tuner m8 you wont go wrong with any of them that was just my preference

Thanks Blueflash - that's exactly what I'm after. From your guidance I'm now swaying towards the 500HD. Ukdreamshop has them on for ?165 + ?10 for delivery. Any other suggestions for where to buy?

Cacti kid - I though the VU boxes were expensive?

if you start with a good box ,no need to update in a few years, some people start small and work their way up,think ahead is what i do.

                              THE TRUTH
                              The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.
