is there anyone using U*C with a dreambox ?? not cable ??? thinking off moving broadband and wont to see if it is safe to run a dreambox or would i need to run a vpn ???

You dont really give enough details of what your trying to do. If you simply want to run/use a friends/family type private cardshare then there really is no point going to a vpn. The CS protocol should session encrypt everything and you should be using non-standard private ports (as well as changing all the default keys/passwords) so nobody should be able to tell what data is being passed back/forth.
Use of a 'public' server is a different matter altogether. The very fact your connecting to a certain IP address pretty much gives the game away. A vpn may help in those circumstances (it will confuse the trail somewhat) but dont make the mistake of thinking that a vpn guarantee's your anonymity - thats not what vpn's are for !Comment

As safe as any other broadband provider. Sky dont really trace you by looking at your data packets within the provider. They simply monitor the server and see who connects and from which IP's. Once they have a list of IP's they can resolve them back to individual subscribers if they choose. The lesson in that is really not to use big commercial servers that advertise their services - they will undoubtably be monitored. Small private servers should be safe enough with the proper precautions.
Generally, SKY etc dont really bother with clients. They're much more interested in taking down the servers. Thats not to say they aren't keeping lists of clients for a 'rainy' day !Last edited by TheCoder; 26 February, 2012, 19:20.Comment
