    DM800 dark motor not moving

    Hello Everyone,

I have brand new Superior Dark Motor installed with the DM800 running on Enigma2 OpenPLI. The installation guy was able to move the motor with his sat scanner box to position on 28.2e, so the motor and the cable works. Now I am trying to get the motor to move to the different satellite positions using my DM800 and it will not do anything, I tried to tell it to GOTO 0 position via my DM - nothing, climbed onto the roof and tried to manually reset - nothing. I have red and green LEDs blinking at the same time (that should indicate that the motor is powered). Tried to move dish by pressing the buttons on the motor and no luck.

My tuner configuration is as in: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-dm800-108809/

Any advice will be much appreciated, thank you in advance!

    Hi mate

That guide by westkill is spot on mate, I don't have a problem with any 800 or 800se. If you have configured it exactly as it states, obviously using long/lat for your location it should work straight away. Make sure you activate every sat you intend to use, you don't need to enter everything in for each sat, it will auto fill. Just check through it all I think you must have mist something.

Can I ask what image your box is running on? I have Enigma2 OpenPLI, think that this could be the factor, considering re-flashing it with Gemini. Any thoughts on that?

I only use PLI images on ALL boxes including dm500. It is unlikely to be the image, but you never know so flash it if you think it might help.
Just make sure it's the correct image for your box mate.

I also do not think that this is a problem, but I have tried everything else advised in forums this is the last trial and error step. If that will not work then it must be something wrong with the hardware and since the motor is new, I am dreading this thought that it could be something wrong with the DM. I also thinking connecting coax to the other receiver ant trying to move dish with the motor buttons, just to see if my DM is not giving enough power (hence toasted )

there are lots of posts about the dark motor
and boxes not working with them. some say the dish moves east
and then locks and has to be sent zero before it works
again others say there dish always goes back to 1w when
the box is put on standby and some cant even get the boxes to
move the dish. they also say the box moves there mates dish
try a google for dark motor problems, there is even a thread on this forum

Hi. A couple of things which may help you.

              1) Green LED's should not be blinking but should be solid. If blinking check cable connections are secure.
              2) Make sure no motor movement limits have been set. Disable limits and see if it moves.
              3) Check motor on a spare receiver if possible to eliminate software issues.

              4) If motor is fairly old it could be motor sensor problems. Do you get a red/orange light on???

              5) Make sure motor is compatible with USALS. Older type motors were only DIseqc 1.2 compatible.

              Take care.

Thanks everyone for support, your input is greatly appreciated.
Latest news on my saga. I managed to get the motor working yesterday, but it was not turning correctly, was missing satellite locations by a few degrees. Played around with Long and Latt and after rebooting the tuner it died and now is not moving again. One thins is clear - the receiver is powering the motor OK and motor also can work. I had an engineer turning up yesterday and the dish turns and gets signal no problem on his Satellite Locator. He also looked at my OpenPLI image and all the setting and was quite surprised on what is going on, in his words he never seen anything like this in his carrier before. He checked the settings and he said that everything is correct and actually straight forward and simply should work. Its also very strange that where there is POSITIONER SET UP menu it does not accept any settings does not move dish by remote control, when I somehow got dish moving earlier it was moving but not displaying any message such as in other images like dish is moving or similar. So he thinks it is probably my OpenPLI image conflicting with the motor. Just for the reference I have brand new out of the box Dark Superior not Supreme, that conflicts and does not work as suggested in the treads suggested by Benny/9.
Any suggestion on good stable image for DM800HD PVR original and where to get it?

                Thanx

The forum has a dedicated download section with plenty of DM800 images available, Not too sound pedantic but the guy who came out and says its an issue with the image is talking bollox.

For one you have already stated there is power getting to the motor by the Green and Red blinking lights this is normal they only go solid when the motor is moving which you probably wont see being inside the house.

benny/9 gives a valid point there have been a fair few SUPERIOR dark motors with faults i have had 2 myself and by reports on the forum it seems there may be a bad batch with an intermittent fault, The SUPREME LED version seems unaffected, Now the other problem could be your power supply on the clone 800 not giving enough juice to the motor and LNB at the same time.

My recommendation would be to rule out the 2 main factors which are the motor and the 800, only way to do this is have you another USALS capable receiver or do you know anyone that has one and it must be original and not another clone. You could try this on the setup first with the motor and then see if its a motor problem, if it works fine then it sounds like an 800 power supply problem if its still the same then its the motor.

Either way you need to through a process of elimination.

When you know as much as me maybe you can give a valid opinion but you dont so slap your dummy back in. and as for staying in the sat section this is the sat section , as for flaming what the hell are you on about i posted a constructive answer with recommendations to rule out the obvious first before doing anything else.

And before you start flaming me or any other member maybe you should read a post correctly first before passing judgement, and be a little more constructive in your own posts
