ive never tried this so cant vouch for it but if you dont want to reflash your box you could try it, its copied and pasted from another site.

***8221; You can reset your dreambox password using dreambox remote:

1.install tuxbox commander using addons button
2. Start tuxboxcomander
3.go to in /var/etc/ and open the file passwd
4.press 4 on remote to go into edit mode.
The first line is root:*****:0:0:root:/home/root:/bin/sh
where the ****** delete it (by using remote arrows to move cursor right and then pressing volume minus)
delete *** until upto :0:0:root

and press ok and exit -> save

the first line should look like this after the edit
root::0:0:root:/home/root:/bin/sh

then login with user root and password leave empty

you could telnet and change the empty password with your own so known can easily hack into your dm box. ***8221;

Heya mate nice one i just came across that info aswell was just thinking about it...the cable has arrived and ive got it hooked up now..

ive backed up the image and am just finding another image now..any idea what i should search for??i have a black box dm500

easier to do the password change or flash?

do i just flash it and everythings done for me? all channels or do i have to something further?

So you got your cable and have managed to backup. You could try the pli image or the commando 14.6.

Of course there is a bit more to it as I think you said you "gift" had run out but we cant discuss that you will need to google.

i couldn't find the link to the commando 14.6 image on here u gt link to the thread for that one? i searched but it didnt show?

500c is a cable box. You need a 500s image. No keys. A sealion

As shady has said you need 500s images assuming your box is a sat box.
