    which box should i buy?

    hi everyone,
this is my first post and i could do with a little advice.
I'm looking to buy my first linux box as the footie season is only a month away and seen as i have just sold my diablo cam as there isn't much on it these days i could do with your expert advice please.
Which box do i buy, a dm500s clone, a dm600 pvr(dvb 600 pvr are these clones or originals) looking at linuxsat it doesn't say, an eagle or a black box?
If i can buy an original 600 for under ?150 i think that would be ok. also has anyone ever used dreambox uk? do they supply originals or clones?
help my heads in a twist, i don't want to buy the wrong thing as i have with other satellite recievers ie tm7755!!!

You wont find an original 600 for under ?150.. The Dreamboxes on Linuxsat are chinese clones, and are clearly advertised as such.. They are badged up as OEM boxes..

If your just getting into linux boxes then my advice would be to get a starter box like the Linuxsat Blackbox 500S..

It uses the same images and EMU's as the original Dreambox and behaves exactly the same..

Many people have upgraded from CAMS and patchable receivers and been unable to get the hang of dreamboxes and had to sell their boxes cheap on eBay..

You will open hardly anything with a linux box on just Keys, only the packages on Thor really are of any worth..

You will have to look at cardsharing which isnt an open topic here so google will give you more information

The only english based compainies that i can recomend are either the supplier of original boxes (sms dreambox) or linuxsat which sell good quality clones..

If you want a 600 or above then buy an original as there are many issuses with image compatibilty, however 500 clones work fine, just stay away from Gemini 4.3 or above

Hi, I'm a new to this as well. I recently brought the BlackBox 500s, one thing about the box is that it's not legal and is made in China so theres not such thing as a genuine box like with the Eurovox boxes and starview.

I receive it today and all I have to say it is the smallest satellite box I've ever seen, it's even smaller than every cable box I've seen as well.

The only problem is that being illegal and from China especially, there's no guide with the package so for us who's new to it, it sucks.

The box isnt illegal! It becomes illegal once Keys are added and the receiver is used to Cardshare. There are people out there who have these receivers purely for making Images and Plugins. thats not illegal!

Read the Rules here; they apply to Everyone.

                    just an update

just to update this thread really.
I finally bought a dm600pvr original off ebay for ?130 with a 200gb hard drive installed, didn't think this was a bad price so i jumped in.
The box arrived and i dusted off my ftp cap which i used with a chipped x-box many years ago.
After many hours scratching my head and trying different things i'd hooked it up to my pc, re flashed the box, loaded it with a pli jade image, had installed many plug ins from there server, loaded it with satans key bundle, handy for digi 1 west footie, loaded every satellite from 45 east to 43 west in my bouquets and that was upto the same stage as my diablo cam was, if not a little better.
But as everything we all want more, so i did a bit of googling about the stuff we don't talk about and found it was a whole new world of satellite out there.
i wished i'd got a dreambox years ago.
so if your thinking of buying a dreambox don't be scared of jumping in, thinking a little outside of the box, asking questions to people on this forum (thanks) and be prepared to put in a little time and effort to reap your rewards.
only downside is i wished i'd bought a HD box but we all have to start somewhere and when the dm500hd box comes out i think i'll be spending a little bit more of my hard earned cash.

Probably not the answer your looking for, as I think your meaning something else.. but for other newbies.. you can also use these as a 2nd box like multiroom.. ok, it means taking the card with you..
(but then there is the other way.. which needs googling)

also... for the caravaning fraternity.. its a lot easier to take your tiny dreambox away with you, and sky card, and use it on a mobile sat (than it would taking your bigger sky box)

new sky cards need code inputing and require 2 different EMU's running at the same time.. the new Sky card also over heats in the Dreambox..

                        Keep it simple..

If you just watch Sky get a sky box

its the new white sky card, the voltage needed is less, deliberately so.. making the card overheat and fry

The crafty f****rs, I suspected they were bringing out the new white cards for reasons like this, (and people like us, who don't just believe in sky) and not to offer any extra services and stuff...
When I do eventually get my box and dish doing what its supposed to do, it will be bye bye sky (and I dont even mean c.s )
