can you use a laptop to flash dreambox ,mine only as usb ports .

In theory you can use a usb to 232 converter, but i could never flash on a lappy and had to use a desktop.

I wouldnt risk it, if the converter stopped working through a flash then you would be back to square1. Then again that could happen with null modem cable too.

As i said in the first post you can in theory, but i personally couldn't. I tried 3 different laptops and Two different usb leads and they all failed.

i havent had any problems using my vista laptop to flash my Dm500 via serial to usb converter.Comment

Same here I use a Laptop to flash my Dreamboxs (No Problem) one has Vista to other has XP, I have never hearD of any issue flash with either OS or USB to RS port on either machine !
Just dont unplug before Flash has been finilised ! I do know where you get the sence to ask before trying ! many other forms of flashing are particulary problematic when it comes to the hardware thats been used to flash with but its not realy the case when it comes to flashing a Dreambox !

Do not disconect a external power supuay from laptop during flash .I have problem once -displey flicks fom a second and my rcv stay empty.Comment
