    Dreambox sat newbie advice pls

Done alot of reading but still a little confused...I already have a sd sky box with all the sports and movies..If I buy a dreambox will I be able to have this connected to the TV upstairs and be able to watch a different channel to the sky box downstairs.. Is this the card sharing method ?

Or option 2.. Am I right in saying if I connect to my router then I can get all the channel over my BB connection..?? Without connecting the dreambox to the sky dish...!

Would I also need to get a dual LNB if it's got to be connected the dish OR can I just split the signal coming out os the dish ?

Also as my sky is only SD will I be able to get a dreambox HD version and watch the HD channels ? + which box would be the best for this ?

Sorry for the idiot questions, but just moved from a cable Eurovox area which was so easy to do, to a sat only area, so I need to learn alot very quick..

Many thanks in advance for any help/advice..

1 No, as a sky box cannot act as a server so would need a dreambox downstairs with the card inserted for the upstairs dreambox to receive the channels

2 No the dreambox need the satellite signal so would need to be connected to the dish.

3 You will need a dual lnb

4 You will only receive what you are subscribed to.

All the HD channels could be available but you will have to google cardsharing as it's not allowed to be discussed here.

        thanks both for the reply..

Based on what dowlinr has said I need 2 dreambox !! One upstairs and one down.. Is this correct ?

When I got my cable eurovox, all I did was d/l the revised fimware and flash the box and then scan for channels, it really was that easy, got all the info plus firmware off this site. Why is the sat version of the dreambox so cloak and dagger !

I now know that I need a dual LNB for sure, which I'm about to get off e-bay, plus just think I'll buy the cheap dreambox (60notes-ish) sd version no HD to have a mess around and try to get working..

Can anyone please PM me with a site to get the cheapest box off with min. amount of hassle to get it up and running, and the firmware I would need to flash the box with...

        Thanks again..

          I got 2 from linuxsat.eu

Both work fine and both are running Pli Jade 3 firmware. Once the firmware is installed every thing you need can be downloaded by the box itself via the remote control.

Am I correct in saying that if I buy one dreambox for downstairs and one for upstairs that I will not need the sky box, but put the card in the dreambox downstairs and then share the card info via the router to the second dreambox ? Also rather than buy a quad lnb is it possible to connect the downstairs dreambox to the single lnb on my sky dish and then daisy chain to the dreambox upstairs ? I've read that they have a lnb in and out.. no sure if this option is on all the dreambox's ?

              1 yes

2 Yes but you will only be able to tune into channels on the same transponder so no use if you want to watch some footie whilst the mrs wants to watch Eastbenders.
A dual lnb (or quad if you think you may buy another box after the first 2) will cost around ?10-15

Did not think you could just put a S*y card straight into a Dreambox without contacting S*y first to get them to pair the 2 together...

Based on what ianmac has said can anyone confirm if sky would have to be rang to pair the card with the dreambox ?

If this is true can someone who has a dreambox say if sky were they happy to oblige with the card being used in a dreambox ?

Also sent a PM to dowlinr

No, for the new white card, you only need the boxkey which can be generated from your serial number. No way would sky pair it to a dreambox as it isn't authorised equipment.

I have a (old blue) sky card sitting in my dm500 and decrypting all the channels it is subbed for.

I'll reply to your pm now.
