    Dish setup for Sats?

    Ok guys, looking some feedback.

Brother just bought new house, he has been use to cable (dreambox) but now wants to go down the sky route.

Its new house so no dish on wall etc...

Now, Im thnking dish with motorised dish so he can get as many channels as possible using cardsharing. Im getting him an dm800s and will be using premium CS.

    So, whats size/type of dish?
    What make, model of motor?
    Anything else he should concider?

thanks for that westkill, much appreciated.

Another questions, should he pay sky for somthing or just get local company to put dish up and run cable and I just plugin the dreambox 800?
will sky come knocking? if so what could he say?

wow, just called a few sky installers and only a few will install a motorised dish
Cheapest quote I got was ?200 and I supply all the equipment :-/

Must be a cheaper way to get that done?

dont ring sky at all.. you dont plan on using their equipment do you..? First off you cant really stick a motor on a sky dish as its too small..

Get a 90cms dish, a motor, all the cables and clips and the F connectors.. a decent independant installer should charge you no more than ?120 to install your own pre bought equipment

As above, you are wasting time asking sky to do you a motor setup.

Worth reading up and setting it up yourself, not hard when you know how.

Saves a fair few quid on initial setup, and also in future if the tracking goes off a bit (which can happen, components sagging, wind etc etc).

                  More fun too!

Many many thousands of people in the UK have satellite dishes installed independently of SKY, there are many legal reasons to install your own dish, a dish is no concern of BSkyB's, anyone can install one, and Sky certainly will not come calling

My advice, if money is tight, is to get out and install the thing yourself, it really is not as complicated as some people like to make out, modern day H-H motors are incredibly simple to install, if you can read and have a few spanners handy then I see no reason why you'll not be up and running with a fully motorised and finely tunes motorised sat system in a few hours.

I have had no training what-so-ever in installing sats, but now I can throw one up and find the arc in less than an hour without any fancy equipment.

My house faces exactly due south so it is silly easy for me

                      THanks for the reply opsmonkey.

You say 90cm dish. Other say get 1.1m dish, I presume to get more channels, I've no need of channels which are not in English, so is there a benifit to going to 1.1?

                        Very help thaknyou.
Money isnt tight, however everyone likes to save if they can. Unfortunately when it comes to houshold chores or manual labour its a no no for me I just have to shop around and get an independant installer to set it up for me.

Now is ebay the cheapest place to get the equipment from?
Or anyone know good only retailer which currently have good offers for everything?
I'll be getting the dm800s from dvbseller.com So I just need to get everything else.

90cms is fine.. over 1m and you need planning permission.. dont listen to people who will say "Its ok the council will never know".. all it takes is one call to the council from a neighbour and you will be made to take it down..

Personally if i was buying a new dish it would be the televes 1m as its only ?49 and still ok to be placed on the side of your house without planning permission..

I know you say you are in no need of channels that are not in english but that is everything apart from what sky UK broadcast..

Once again thanks for the info.

Hes not a big sports fan, so Im thinking is there really any need to have a motorised dish?
I''ll be getting sky uk via cardsharing for him.
Perhaps Im just confusing the issue and should just get basic setup fixed dish? Unless someone can give me good reason to go motorised?

If you are just after sky uk then get a fixed dish, motorised dishes offer the best of sport cheaper and more frequently than sky ... Sky via cs isn't the best because of the encryption.. Sky Italy has just become unshareable, don't be supprised if sky uk follow suit
