you will need to have an IP address on your PC for it to be able to talk with your DM.. I assume you have a router involved which you use for broadband etc..

you router will probably have an IP of something like 192.168.1.1 therefore for your DM and PC to be able to communicate with the outside world or with each other they will need to have an IP within the same subnet so for instance you can have you PC using 192.268.1.2 and your DM using 192.168.1.3

you do not have to set these IP address manually within your your and PC you can use the DHCP function your router to assign them IPs within the correct subnet.

If however you do not wish to have your PC connected to the internet/router then you will have to have a direct cable connection to the DM then you will need to use a crossover cable instead of a 'straight through' cable. then you can set the IPs as listed above.. the first three octets of the IP must be same its the just the last ocatet known as the physical IP address that you must have different, they can be from 1 - 249..

I hope this helps but your question was not too clear..

I maybe mistaken but I think the question probably relates to cardsharing and dynamic host 'no-ip'. I use a dynsdns updater on my pc to keep the dreambox ip address in synch with the dynamic host so I am assuming that there is something similar with the 'no-ip' host.

your probably right Curious... I thought it looked a bit confusing.. Lets hope that it does not develop into a card sharing discussion then because as we all know they are not permitted on Digital Kaos..

I run the NO-IP DUC update client on my pc. It works wonders with keeping your isp ip upto date with your dns. Google no-ip update client.
