    Ethernet connection question

    Hi All

I want to buy Dream box, the problem I have is that my router is upstairs and I want to put the DM box is in ground floor. I understand that Dreambox ethernet port must always be connected to the router of my broadband in order to get the channels. Any idea on how to solve this porblem? Is there a Dream box with wireless port?

    Thanks in advance

Simple, connect a wireless access point to your dreambox. I have used a linksys wet11 for about 5 years now.

Thanks for your information, do you think using the BT or home plug devices will slow network speed to my Dreambox? Or do I actually need high speed link to my dreambox because I understand the role of the box is to send & receive keys which are only small data?

The dreambox uses very very little data.

For example my brother is using a 3G mobile internet to connect to his box in South africa and he doesnt have any problems whatsoever

Homeplugs use the ringmain so make sure the ringmain isn't split into 2 or 3 rings.
Ethernet from router into homeplug. Place 2nd homeplug into mains next to receiver-ethernet from homeplug to receiver. Circuit complete.

Could you explain what do you mean by "ringmain isn't split into 2 or 3 rings"?
I thought I need to place the home plug in a standard 13 AMP socket.

                  Thanks

                      What for?

                      Hia

I am living in South Africa and I am considering getting a dreambox instead of the local DSTV but when I read that the DB has to be connected to the internet at all times it got me seriously worried about internet costs...

As it is, they have stolen our phone line cables to often that our telecoms provider has simply stopped putting up phone lines in our area. Thus, to get onto the net I have to use a usb dongle and a sim card... Does this mean that I won't be able to watch satellite TV ?

tiptaps: Do you have any idea how much your brother pays for his setup in terms of bandwidth costs?

Is it not possible to use the DM to watch TV without an internet connection?
