    which dreambox for recording?

    Hi all,

I am in the process of buying a dreambox but wanted to know which one I should go for.

I will be connecting it to a motorised dish to use CCcam and load images for european satellites.

    1. Are the current images available on all boxes or are there different images for each box, if so which box is better supported?

    2. I would like to record on this box, preferably recording one channel while watching another - I beleieve the box requires a twin tuner, if so which box will allow me to do this?

    3. An added bonus will be a box that has a usb port which will allow me to connect an external hard drive and use this as a PVR function rather than recording on a built in hard drive or installnig a laptop hard drive, which I understand the DM 600 does.

    4. Unfortunately I cannot afford the DM 800/8000. Although I would consider a clone if they are reccomended and are well supported?

    5. can you reccomend any suppliers?

Any help will be much appreciated, also if you can reccomend any suppliers that will be good.

    Thanks

    H

    1. Gemini, PLi and Nabilosat are prob the most favoured images. Theres versions available for all dreamboxes.
    2. Currently either the DM7025+ or the DM8000, the others only have a single tuner.
3.Never tried recording through usb, sorry.
4.The DM800 clones are well supported, but can be problematic, prob best buy one from a uk supplier such as linuxsat.
    5. Answered above.

      Thanks Sicilian,

does the DM7025+ have recording capabilites? i.e does it have built in hard drive or option to connect external hard drive?

I have seen on other forums that the DM 600 allows for a twin tuner to be installed, is this correct?

      Thanks

You cannot have a twin tuner on a DM600, although you can swap say a sat tuner with a terrestrial tuner.

The DM7025+ can have a 3.5" IDE hdd fitted inside or you could network a HDD.

Personally never played with a clone. Best thing to do is read thru some of the posts here to see what members think of them. If I was in the market for a clone I'd buy from Linuxsat, one of the forum sponsors, they're in the UK & will provide support in the event of a defect.
