    Port forward for dreambox

Just trying to setup port forward for the dreambox but unsure what protocal to choose. I have either TCP or UDP.

    Anyone know ?

Also I am using a linksys router and have 2 port forwarding options:

single port forwarding or port range forwarding

So I just pick a port say 12000 and enter the static ip of my dreambox ?

    Thx

port forwarding .... for static IP.
    test to open port:

Enable port forwarding on both TCP & UDP, don't know about linksys but in ntegear I choose TCP & UDP and better use differnet port rather than 12000 and enter the staic ip address of the dreambox.

        Why not 12000?

What numbers can I choose between?

It is just the defult port used on dreambox and good security pratice is use different port. You can use 15000 for example, if this makes things complicated just ignore that and use 12000

Thats ok but when I go into single port forwarding I can only choose TCP or UDP and not both. Both can only be selected in port range forwarding but thats for opening more than one port as far as i know.

hmmm, i'll give it a bash though I always thought it was for more than one port.

I done it with a different number but its still telling me the port is closed!

I dont have to restart the router maybe ?

EDIT: Nevermind - all sorted now.

Gotta be honest with you I just tried numbers until a port actually opened - that simple!

I originally went with 15000 and that wouldnt open so just tried again and found one that did.

I found that you can change the dreambox default port in CCcam.cfg.

Ok I have actually found the proper solution - at least in my case.

What I done was the following:

                          1) Changed the Server listening port from the default 12000 in CCcam.cfg

                          2) Then selected the same port I had chosen above and opened it on my router

                          3) Now this is the important part - a restart of both the GUI and router are required for the the port to open. Without this the port would stay closed. I now have the ability to open whatever port I wish.

Hope this is of help to anyone else who faces a similar situation.

                            I've got a belkin and keep getting-port closed---i have
                            in my virtual servers

Server ip address......dreambox ip in here ?
                            External Port Start...1200
                            External Port End.....1200
                            Protocol.....TCP or UDP or TCP/UDP...?
                            Internal Port Start....1200
                            Internal Port End....1200

Does the above look correct ? do you put the same
number in all the boxes ?

As said its a Blekin router....

Do you need this all sorted before you can use dreamset type software.

                            Thanks

You don't need to worry about port forwarding to use Dreamset or DBE etc within your home network.

You only need Port forwarding/DDNS for remote access and if you're using your Dreambox as a server for external CS...
