enigma 1 was for older boxes, ie dbox2 and dreambox 500

enigma 2 is for newer boxes, usually hd boxes ie dreambox 800hd

yep! Enigma 2 is larger then Engima 1 so some boxes still have to use the older enigma (dm500 for example).

, thats a bit like saying any updated version is better than the original. Usually it just means extra bloatware that nobody actually needs or wants - the same is true of enigma 2, the vast majority of people simply dont need the new facilities it provides. On a lot of boxes though, its the only alternative !

Generally though, you shouldn't worry about the differences between enigma1 & enigma2 as its just the base OS level that everything else is built on - just use the images that are meant for your box and does what you want

I know my Dream 7025 runs E2 images, but sometimes they are so bloated you need to run them from the CF card or USB rather than from internal flash....
Still not heard of Enigma 3 though - any answer to that one guys?
