    DM500HD or DM800 clone?

    HI All,

I currently have a Technomate 5400 with motorised set-up and am now looking to go down CS route so was looking at Dreamboxes.

I was originally just going to go with a Clone dm800hd from ukdreamshop but noticed the original 500hd is now out.

Im basically just looking for a Stable HD box to use with a pay server and was wondering is the 500HD going to be that much better than a dm800 clone for my needs as it looks like its going to cost approx ?140 more for the 500hd?

I have looked at other threads on similar topics but they only advise the differences in spec but i was just wondering has anyone used both boxes and if so is the 500hd worth the extra money?

    Thanks in advance

Yeah but by buying the 500HD you are buying a Real Dreambox not a Clone, you are also buying a far more powerfull receiver with a 400mzh Processor and 265MB of Ram both far exceed what comes in the current 800HD.

The 800HD is to be replaced by a new the new Dreambox 800HD-Se this side of Christmas, so even the Clone 800HD will be out dated.

You are far better to spend the Extra Money on a new Dreambox 500HD and at least future proof yourself somewhat, if you decide for a Clone 800HD Support will start falling off after the new model is released this goes for Applications, Drivers and Images.

The Image Files for the New Dreamboxs are .NFI files the older Dreamboxs were .iso So all new Images going forwared will no longer work on the Older Receivers as Developers move support away from the Older Hardware, this will also go for applications & Drivers.

        Valid points made.

To be honest I was heading more for the DM500HD purely because i have read numerous issues with clones i.e freezing on hd channels, remote and fan issues. Seems you have to buy a clone then spend another 50 quid or so getting an inline amplifier, different tuner and fans etc and then limited to what Sim card is installed but this is all from what i have read so not 100% sure if these are all currents issues in the latest batch of clones.

In your opinion do you think the extra processing power and better quality tuner in the dm500hd will eliminate these glitches in hd viewing that people seem to have with the current boxes? I know that with anything you buy there is always going to be some sort of issues but when you are about to pay 300+ for a box you just want to make sure it will do the job for what you want.

But like you say, if images are no longer going to be released as .iso then that kinda makes the older boxes a ticking brick i guess.

Thanks for the advice, looks like DM500hd it will have to be

Well put it this way the 500HD's new broadcom processor makes a massive difference between that of the older 800HD much faster far more stable and yes the HD channels work far better now than they did before largely down to the processor but also the extra memory really makes difference....

The only glitch I had with mine was from using Dream-elite Image, the HD quality was poor, Keep Crashing, Green screen of death etc, Switched over to Gemini 5.0 and in over 4-5 months it has not crashed once and the HD picture quality has been second to none.

Put it this way some of the Clone receivers should not even be classed as a clone in the true sense as a clone should be virtually identical in every way but once you have the lid off one you see how very different they really are, and the quality shows in performance, quality of picture and the longevity of the product, Buying a real Dreambox and you should see many many years out of it....

Im looking to buy the DM500HD, had enough of clones. My HD channels are still freezing even with the inline amp. If i get rid of the dm800 clone now then I can get a lot more for it then i would if i kept hold of it.

Whats the difference between the 800 and 500 though. The 500hd is around ?319 and 800hd about ?379. What warrants the extra ?60 in price?

Do not buy the current 800HD m8, its soon to be replaced with the 800-HD-se which will be around 450-500 quid mark.

If you buy the current 800HD it will be out of date by Christmas.

There is a vast difference between the older version Dreambox and the new releases mainly the more powerful processor but also the Broadcom chip-set on the new tuner cards.
