Please help high ping with 3g modem and router setup

I am using a zoom 3g router with an o2 3g (ie) dongle but i get a lot of glitching. My 3g signal is full but i notice that when it does glitch my ping shoots up to 300ms+

Is there anything i can set in my router to keep the ping down its as if my dreambox/blade is not receiving enough packets?

I should mention that when im running a torrent or skype the ping decreases to 150ms or below??

The dongle has just been unlocked if that will make a difference.

    Cheers
    jim

i presume ya have the router setup in the best signal location
    mines at a window
check the signal strength in router settings

how do ya have the dreambox connected
    by wifi bridge or dongle
if wifi bridge is it in same room
as it will lose signal through walls

ya can get a usb cable mate
    and stick the dongle outside
and wrap it in a lunchbox and seal it well with tape to stop water getting in
because double and triple glazed window, insulation in walls etc affect the signal
heres the type of cable ya need i think 7 meters is the max ya can use
will get ya up high along the roof
5M USB 2.0 Active Repeater Extension Cable Lead - GOLD on eBay (end time 05-Mar-11 17:55:36 GMT)

as for your router settings i dont no about them as i dont have that type one
but i had to do nothing to mine only basic setup

also maybe whoever is supplying ya with a line has a crap setup

when ya say full bars theres different type ones if its green its bad signal
light blue is ok and dark blue is the best signal

heres my results at the minute and the telly is working fine
and its peak time for people on the net at 20.10 in the evening

    and my signal is 49%
i can see this in my router setting

Thx m8 my dongle is situated at the window and i have made an amplifier which has increased the signal by a couple of bars its at 45%. I have a 5 meter usb cable with an amp built in but for some reason my router does not get on with it

My dm500 is connected by a solid Ethernet cable so there should be no problems there. The server is pretty solid and i only notice a glitch when my ping shoots up so it must be down to my connection.

Here are my speed settings but they are always different the second time round. As for the light on the dongle it goes from solid blue to a brighter blue every 10 seconds but the signal in my router stays the same

the results are every bit as good as mine
my router goes upto 150 meg
but yours only goes to 100 meg
doubt it would bother it though

maybe its the providers end thats having a problem

how did ya make the amplifier and how have ya joined them?

The amp is made with a large plastic mixing bowl with foil placed inside. I then cut a hole in the center and slotted the supplied (o2) extension cable into the middle with the dongle attached.

I think what my router lacks is the option to switch between edge and 3g. I often wonder if the glitching is caused by the modem switching from hsdpa to wcdma but the router does not show this information.

I have told the provider of my trouble but they say my connection is acceptable for mobile broadband. Im running a program (from laptop) called WebPage Refresher and Monitor
which will refresh a webpage every 5 seconds and my ping stays really low with no glitching on my dm500.

It works but it would be nice to have it work without this always running on my laptop.
