I've turned off the autobouquets timer and getepg timer and found that the cam has not crashed since
Commando 14.7 DM500 Release

Then may I suggest a better Timer setup for you please? Adjust times to suit you, naturally. And set GetEPG to load at boot.
01:00 - Standby
06:30 - AutoBouquets Plugin
And that's it. While in Standby Mode, o**cam will be off. Whether or not the box remains in Standby after the auto-Reboot that follows AutoBouquets (and GetEPG Automapping) is entirely up to you. This 'Smartsleep' setting is toggled on or off in Settings > Boot & Standby Options.
But on wakeup, o**cam will fire up again automatically, and your EPG has loaded, happy days!

On reflection, I can imagine one culprit that could potentially nuke o**cam (and indeed, any softcam). The user! A snippet from the GetEPG helpfile:
Now, assuming that you're following this advice (from the horse's mouth, as it were), is it possible that you are setting too many channels for the maximum 7 days EPG in your rdmap.dat user mapfile, I wonder? After you have loaded GetEPG, can you go Menu > Services > EPG Statistics and reply here with the amount of memory in use for EPG, please?Code:The fourth field is number of Days for EPG, between 0 (which is actually up to midnight) and 7 maximum. Heed LraiZer's advice on this one, please! Do NOT make them all the same number of days, or this will crash your box, on account of GetEPG trying to process one massive datafile in the /tmp folder! Be sensible, and break it down into nice chunks. For example, 7 days for prime Movies and Sport, 4 days on quality Entertainment, Factual etc. 2 days for Kids and Music. 1 day for reasonable channels you seldom watch, and 0 days for the rubbish stuff, of course.

Whatever the default settings is....I'm using it ! I guess the default is 7 days for every channel. I'll report the stats here later on.On reflection, I can imagine one culprit that could potentially nuke o**cam (and indeed, any softcam). The user! A snippet from the GetEPG helpfile:

Although, like I said, the problem of crashing os*** did not happen prior to the latest updateComment

The default EPG is certainly NOT 7 days for every channel, and no mods were made in the 17/19-July-2013 online update that would adveresly impact on GetEPG and resident cam.
Online updates don't touch user mapfiles except when dead stuff is removed and new channels surgically inserted. So how many days epg for each channel is 100% down to the user...

Ah! I've just spotted where you're coming from here, lfc84!
Prior to the 19-07-2013 update, the standalone weekepgset script by LraiZer did not stop and restart the resident softcam prior to and after zapping to the epg radio channel where the epg is sucked down from the 28.2E stream.
The last update did away with around two dozen standalone scripts and consolidated them into four new 'superscripts'. In the process of doing this mega editing/testing exercise, we felt it to be a good idea to kill the cam while GetEPG was loading, then restart it when rezapping to to the original channel you were watching, to avoid possible memory issues/clashes...
Worked fine on my tests, with CCcam temporarily installed. However, os**m and mg**md have a mind of their own in this scenario. You think os**m has crashed, but I bet you, it hasn't! Just channel UP and then channel DOWN, and you 'should' see that it's still alive and kicking, LOL!
Please verify this is true, as there's an easy mod we can add to the softcam restart routine here that will give these two lazy bar steward cams a kick up the kick up the arse to get them working again!
Thanks once again for your solid feedback, and sorry it took so long for the penny to drop here, m8!

Os*** has been running for a couple of days. Within seconds of starting GetEPG - it stops. The webinterface stops loading.
ps | grep cam
shows nothing - whilst GetEPG is running
top - shows this - whilst GetEPG is running
Mem: 28448K used, 1736K free, 0K shrd, 2008K buff, 9136K cached
Load average: 0.22 0.14 0.05 2/59 18093
Then, GetEPG seems to stop abrupty after around 140 seconds. It then attempts to return to the channel I was watching.
The screen remains black - even for a FTA channel. From telnet, ps shows that os*** does indeed restart
When I try to change channel the screen shows: the picon for bbc1 - 1. BBC1, the clock stopped, and a black screen. nothing in th now and next text
The only thing i can do is to reboot.Comment

Sussed it! Last update switched 'Smartsleep' ON by default. This was unintentional, sorry...
Switch it OFF in Settings > Boot & Standby Options menu, restart box, then all should be fine on next GetEPG load. Please confirm? We've removed that option flag from future updates.

Hi Al
I just flashed an older build of commando 14.7 that I had on my PC using a serial cable and then did the online update... the image updated fine to the latest build.
I then went in and set my location to the republic of ireland.
I then got a message that my location has been set but a run of autobouquets is needed to activate my location setting.
I then attempt to run auto bouquets but after 180 seconds I get the following error
"Sorry but the autobouquets stream scan failed, please double check your settings are correct"
Any idea whats wrong here mate and how I can correct it?
Also after googling this issue I seen a thread of yours which said to check the tuxbox commander help docs and view the document named 0_1st-time Online Update IMPORTANT.txt
This doc is not visible in tuxbox commander, I can see all the other docs but cant see this one
Do I have to do something after my 1st online update?
Thanks AL and keep up the great workComment

Can someone please help me. I have not been able to figure out where I can activate subtitles in the commando 14.7 image. I have a dreambox 500s and this image has made the remote channels change (which is fine as I know which button is which now), but I can't figure out where subtitles are. Any help would be appreciated. ThanksComment

The box was NOT in standby mode when GetEPG kicked in. I've been up since 5am so my brain is still in holiday mode....Where is the Settings > Boot & Standby Options menu ?
