Dm518s Samba server

Hi

I am not able to give much help on the forum so I don't usually like to ask for help but I have really got stuck after trying everything I could find on the site (and others) over the last month or so.

I have DM518s with Gemini 4.4.0 and a NAS running Samba server.

The NAS is recognised by Windows 7 and I have a shared folder as in the guide to setting up direct recording.

I used an older version of Samba server because networking really is not my thing and I had an idiot's guide to installing it.

When I try either setting up a mount point on the dbox or by web interface, it always fails.

When I follow the instructions for setting up through the box, everything seems to be okay but the mount point doesn't work and it shows up in the interface as being wrong. When I try through the interface, it shows as working but does not show up on the box.

I am not sure how to even ping the NAS through the dbox to see they can communicate, so things are going nowhere fast.

Could someone please give me a few pointers?
