    Dead Dreambox

    Hi,

Just killed my dreambox 500S using a corrupted image (Flashwizard), now when I plug the box the green light is always on with no control from the remote or any image on the TV. The power button on the set is also not working.

Turned to ebay & other sites selling dreambox online to get a RS232 null cable and was amazed to find people selling F-F Null cable for the Dreambox, shouldn't it be a F-M?

Male from Laptop side and Female to the Box?

    Regards,
    Karim

NO your referring to the vga output on your laptop. That wont have a serial port. Not many laptops do.

    Its F-F null modem cable

Serial port is male as is the one on the dreambox.

Ohhhhhhhh, right, it's the VGA port

Since I don't have any serial ports on the laptop, is it possible to connect the laptop (Dreamup) with the box by using a USB-Female RS232 Cable and then Flash it?

      Regards,
      Karim

or any other software like DreamUP as the box is not currently operating (i.e. stuck @ green light with no signal on TV or network connectivity)?

you can get a usb to male serial cable, then join together with a female to female null modem cable this will work perfectly well.

Thanks, but will a usb-f serial cable work directly between the laptop & the box using dreamup?, or is it a must to use a usb-m serial cable and then a f-f adapter (9 pins) cable printer (or adapter)?

In the above cases will dreamup recognize the usb cable directly and which port?

            Regards,
            Karim
