    dreambox greenlight

Hi all please can somebody help for several days now i've been battling with this beast and loosing badly, I have a dm500s with a pli jade image about a week ago my box went to a black screen and the green light would stay on and the remote was unresponsive. After searching through this site it seems that i need to reflash my box ( if im wrong please comment) when i connect my box using a null modem cable and dreamup 1332 the dreamup programme says connection prepared, now switch on the dreambox when i turn the power on nothing happens the message is still there. First i thought it might be the cable but i bought a new 1 and the same thing happens. Where do i go from here?
    Thank you all

you can download dreamup from the last link of my signature area for use on a dm500s ,also have you set the correct com port on dreamup as that may be your problem .
i love it when a dreambox comes together.

are you using a usb type lead? could be a driver issue?

ah so your using a null modem cable and a usb to serial adaptor ,did you install the drivers for the usb adaptor on your pc ? .the adaptor may come with a disc which contains the drivers or you may have to download the drivers . you need the drivers ,if you have the drivers and still are having problems you may be having compatabilty issues . windows vista doesnt really work with a lot of drivers so if you have the drivers and they dont work you could have great difficulty flashing your box . if you can get the use of a desktop computer you could flash your box with just a null modem cable .

              try this

You can check Windows Update anytime to see if it has found new drivers for your hardware. Then, you can install them if you choose. Here's how:

              1.

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.***8204; Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
              2.

In the left pane, click Check for updates.
              3.

To see if updated drivers are available, click View available updates. Windows Update will list any updated drivers that are available for devices installed in your computer.
              4.

If updates are available, click the driver that you want to install, and then click Install. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

l had a problem with win7 and a usb to serial lead , the update drivers from windows site was turned off and as soon as l turn on it installed the drivers straightaway

Thanks for the reply's much appreciated. I am using a null modem to usb cable and have installed the drivers off the disc on to my win 7 64bit laptop and windows does recognise this ok but i will follow the instructions above to see if this resolves the issue.

Right I've just updated my lappy and are all up to date I've checked the properties of the null cable and this device is working correctly I've downloaded and used the latest dreamup v1.3.3.7 and I still get the same message, connection prepared, now turn on the dreambox. Do you think my box might have bitten the bullet or is it something I'm missing. When I first flashed the box 7-8 months ago I didn't have any problems at all. Also when I connect to Dcc using my network cable it does not find my box the error message I get is Error 10057 in function Send Socket is not connected.

that error indicates that there is a problem with the ip address of the box or it is the wrong ip address . in dreamup try ticking use network its in the upper left corner below serial port and try and flash again ,also use dreamup 1.3.2.1 for a dm500s.

@smirnoff_rules yes I have turn my dreambox off and on many times and the same thing happens green light stays on and the remote is unresponsive. @piopat I've downloaded and use dreamup v1.3.2.1 and still the same message, connection prepared, now turn on your dreambox. I have tried using the serial option and the use network option and its still the same. Also when using dcc when searching for my ip address for the box all of the unknown addresses it found came back with an dreambox login failed error but when i tried to login using the known ip address of the box the error is network not ok.

i think you may have to try and get the use of a desktop computer ,you only need it for about 10 minutes .
