    Dreambox Control Centre

I have finally flashed my DM500+ with PLi Jade and uploaded Henksat Channel Settings Rotating 45E to 45W. Have set CCcam as the default cam.

Network is set up; wireless ethernet bridge connected to Dreambox, communicates wirelessly to main router.

    Next stage, upload keys:-
Now, in Dreambox Control Centre v2.95 I have 'Network OK' and got a green box for 'FTP connected' and a green box for 'Telnet connected'. In the text Protcol box it states:-

    Telnet Connected
    FTP Connected
    Model DM500 detected.

    Bootmanager: not found.

What does 'Bootmanager: not found' mean? Is this a problem and do I need to modify something?

When trying to copy the satankeysbundle folders into /var it says:-

    can't create directory keys

    and then:-

    can't create directory scce

    Can you help me please?

Yeh it always says can't find bootmanager, ignore that.

As above, I prefer to use a normal ftp program as I think DCC is far too intensive for what you actually want to do.

If you can telnet to the box, you can try and create the directory that way...

      Code:
      cd /var
      mkdir keys
      mkdir scce
If you get the same error messages, the image has locked up and you will need to reflash it. You've learned the hard way the importance of backing up the image before you make any changes or period intervals when you're setting up.

        Thank you for the advice.

I have just used the Dreambox Web Interface to access /var and there is already a folder created called 'keys' and another one called 'scce'. When navigating into either folder it states 'none'.

In DCC the folders actually appear as a "hand pointing towards the right" if that makes sense?

How do I drop the files into these folders using the Web Interface?

Seriously, I would download an ftp program and use that.

          Digital Kaos - Downloads - FlashFXP v3.0.2

Or what I suggested with the telnet commands.

Using FlashFXP I have dragged and dropped the satankeys bundle folders 'keys' and 'scce' from the right hand pane (PC) to the left hand pane (Dreambox) whilst this pane was displaying the contents of /var.

The two folders I am copying accross now appear in the bottom left hand pane, with the correct path for each folder and a Remark 'upload to 192.168........'
this all looks correct so far.

Do I have to now click on something to complete the transfer?

Copying these files should take no more than 5 seconds.

If it's 'hanging up' then you may have a problem with your connection settings.

I clicked the icon 'Transfer Selected' after first clicking on the folders listed in the bottom left pane (they were marked with a red cross).

A blue upwards arrow appeared when I clicked Transfer Selected icon, so I think the folders have been sent to the Dreambox.

OK I will reboot the box and see.

                    This method worked:-

Using FlashFXP, drag and drop the unextracted file 'satan.tar.gz' from the PC to the /var/tmp directory on the Dreambox.

Then using the Software Management item under the Setup menu on PLi Jade, select Manual Install and select satan.tar.gz.
PLi then extracts and installs the keys.

Now, how can I test if they are working? Any particular sats or channels that can be tried to confirm?

I haven't managed to get a lock on Thor at .8W yet.

Any other sats (I have 19.2E and 13.E, as well as 28.2E). Or some help with how to tune in Thor please?

As I have discovered - albeit too late! Now I am really struggling to justify the cost of the dish, motor, Dreambox, cabling etc. I don't think it was really worth it. As you say, there really is very little open with keys at the moment, which leads me to conclude that cs is where the real and only current value lies with owning a Dreambox. I said in my earlier posts that I wasn't interested in cs but now I realise thats like saying I think I'll but a nice car, but I'm not really interested in driving it beyond my front drive.

I did a fair bit of reading about the Dreambox before purchasing and installing the whole system. I had some problems from the beginning and if it wasn't for the good advice given to me by members of this forum I would have been really stuck. The DM manual isn't nearly clear enough on how to set the thing up. Sometimes I thought I just didn't understand how to use the menus - eg Sat Config and Goto XX, but after googling it up its obvious that Goto XX doesn't seem to work on the DM500+ and you have to manually locate and scan you satellites. The good side is that I have been doing lots more reading, sometimes only to reaffirm what I have learned.

So far I have succesfully flashed an image (using a PC at work with a serial port, because no way could I make my laptop accept the drivers for the HL340 USB-Serial Adapter I bought). I have PLi Jade running. Have Henksat Channels Settings for 45E to 45W. Have ccCam 2.0.11 and Satankeys bundle. Network is configured and nicely set-up with a wireless ethernet bridge from the dreambox talking to my main router upstairs. Setting up the satellites has been a pain, but where I really need advice now is with softcams and keys, so here are a few questions:-
                            1) Can (or should) more than one softcam be loaded into the Dreambox?
                            2) Is there a guide to what the diffirences are between the various softcams available?
                            3) Do different key bundles pair with specific softcams?
                            4) If you locate keys (the text code) on a google search for a particular channel, is it possible to manual add the key string to your keys (eg Satankey file)?

You will notice that I am at the stage where I am trying to learn about softcams and keys so any help that anyone can offer will be much appreciated as always. PM me if required.

There is a member on here Withatwist, who was at about the same stages as me around Xmas, then in one of his later posts he seemed totally frustrated and said a few truths - you can get endless help with flashing and configuring the box but then when you get to this stage where you are almost there, there is not so much help. His last post he was well chuffed, fully set up with all the channels. IT GIVES ME HOPE. One day my wife can watch Star Plus on Intelsat 907 at 27.5W and the kids can watch cartoons. And I will be forever greatful for the help I received on this forum in reaching my goals of having a happy family with a daddy who doesn't spend all weekend either up a ladder or all evening trying to configure the sat box.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and for any advice in anticipation.

Whats in a line......pretty much everything.

Thanks to eveyone who helped me with a seemingly small step that made a massive difference! The help has been much appreciated.

I'm now clearing many a channel. Happy days!
