    converting dm500

ive put this in here and you will see why

well i just thought il tell you what ive have been doing for the past few weeks....converting a dm500c into dm500s
you might be thinking WTF ??
any how a mate of mine had a dm500s which was knackerd and i had a dm500c which was sat in a drawer gathering dust,my mate said why dont we convert the 500c into 500s (nothing ventured nothing gained in my views),so he took the 500c of me,de-soldered the tuners on both boxes also de-soldered the lnb circuitry on the old sat box,he spent about 3 hours soldering the tuner and lnb circuit to the ex cable box, check all circuits which was ok,gave the box back to me,i put a sat img on,and fired the box up went into the settings and got this ImageShack***174; - Online Photo and Video Hosting when i should be getting this ImageShack***174; - Online Photo and Video Hosting notice whats missing .... yes satellite and transponders folder,so i thought the ex cable was still thinking its booting up as a cable box and not a sat box, after searching the forums here and there i came across a dos programme to flash the bootloader with jtagging, any how i got me mate to solder some jtags on the points on the new 500s,i got it home flashed the bootloader, now i can see the satellite and transponders folder, but i didnt see any folder to change the motor setting and putting in usals etc, connected upto the tv plug the sat cable in and wayhay we have sat tv from a cable box, after a good 24 hours of testing, the new sat box is stable, with no pixs freezing or stuttering

so it is possible to change an ex dm500c into a working dm500s

edit : any pm's reguarding how its done will be ignored

and a big thanks to Mjolinor for doing the solder work

its cool, its REALLY cool, and you and your pal are brilliant for doing it.
And sure, some might say 'but its easier to just buy a 500s'..and they're right; but it was also easier to NOT climb everest.
    well done elric and 'friend'
    Fave replies from various threads

1: What the fff is all that about??? All that crap below your reply I mean, get a life mate
2: no info on google abt the pace sv5 rang asda they have no idea what i was talking about,
3: Your total contribution to this forum, bordering on trolling, seems to have been a collection of snipes, one liners & asterisked expletives

The thing is having the tuner from an old sat dm500. Without that the jobs really a non-starter as replacement tuners cost almost as much as a new clone box. If you do have the tuner (and the other handful of components) then yes, its a relatively simple job to convert. Be aware though, the main thing to fail on these boxes is actually the tuner module itself so if you may just end up transferring a duff tuner to another box.

Might be useful if you posted the boot updater program and the boot loader you used - they could be useful to anybody else that wants to try the same thing. Must admit i'm not sure why you needed to do this as it should be the tuner hardware that defines functionality, not the bootloader.

            In what respect ?

The images that were in use on cable boxes 2-3 years ago still work fine today. For the fta channels nothing has really changed and your unlikely to get anywhere with the encrypted channels unless you know a server operator whos' running cable CS.

If you had one working a couple of years ago then you may as well stick with that as you know it works. Nothing has really changed as far as cable is concerned except you need to change the softcam from a Nagra emulator to a cardshare function. Thats pretty damn easy to do on any image you choose. There's been no real updates or new images for UK cable operation on dm500's.

Adding a CCcam capable softcam should really take you know more than 10 minutes for any image you already have working. Its a fairly basic task.

The hard thing is finding a cable based cardserver. There's a few around but not many, and even fewer willing to take on clients they dont know !
