3g dongle with my dm500s and laptop

I have a read a few threads here and it appears it can be done but have yet to see a proper guide that has been tried and tested.

I have been told I will use less than 100mbps per month so the price is fine.

I am worried though that the picture may be very glitchy, can someone verify this.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this as this solution will be perfect for my brother.

Something ive looked at myself but you will need a 3g router theres a list somewhere on one of the threads.
Mixed reviews though thats why i didnt bother.

        Hi

I use 3g dongle with my TM600 connected to a 3g router and pic is fine. signal sometimes drops off on Mobile network but this is very rarely and majority of time the pic is very stable. I used the dongle connected to my laptop through internet sharing and this also worked fime connected to TM600 via ethernet.

Some good 3g routers out the and the one I use is a TP link MR3220 i think off memory.

Thanks for all your advice. Youve no idea how grateful I am. How often do you guys top up. My brother will seldom use the laptop so a ?10 topup for 1gb, how long do you think it will last. Its just a dm500s so no hd channels.

So think I'll go with the edimax router and a 3 dongle.

why get the edimax router has it been recommended by anyone also where are ya buying it as ya might need support in setting it up

also do ya have any other bb in your house
because if ya have any iphone tablet laptop etc ya will be able to connect to this router an run them off it

i cant recommend my router enough it has 2 lan ports and a wan port

Yea a few threads mentioned the Edimax 3G-6200n was a good 3g router. I will be getting the huwaei e367, it supposed to be faster as it has hspa so will have to check if the edimax supports this.

What kind of network cable do I need to connect the router to dreambox, crossover??

Cant you still get them Vodaphone unlimited dongles where you put 10 quid on and it stays on till you use it rather than putting 10 quid on every month.

Can one of these be used?

So do my mbps not rollover on my 3 dongle to the next month. If I dont use my topup will it just expire?

                    cat 5 will do
presume that dongle has an external antenna connection

                    also most allowances dont rollover
unless theres a deal like andy said

Just posted a link on my earlier post for unlimited dongle.
They are a bit pricey but long term i imagine they work out cheaper in the long run if you only use the dongle for Dreambox.
Im guessing when you watch fta you can take it out to save money!

There are different types of cat5, crossover, straight through, patch.

                            Not sure, any advice......

Was down at a friends who has just got bt installed. Had to set it up for him. He also has a dm500s, done a speed test and it was only 2.34 and dm500s works perfect. He also informed me that his previous provider talktalk was only 0.57 and dm500s worked flawlessly

So no reason the 3 dongle should lag.......
