need help connecting to pc to flash

whats up im new here, dunno if im postin this in the right place.
just wanted to get a bit of help on my dreambox

i was flashing it using telnet but it froze up and nothin has worked since

i have tried to connect it to my pc using a serial-usb adapter= no connection to dreamup, i got a rs232 pci card for the pc. got a null cable = no connection to dreamup.

i dont know if im connecting it wrong or am i doing something wrong. the box doesnt show up on the tv. remote doesnt respond, just a green light for a couple minutes then that even knocks off

imstruggling here...im not going back over to maplin for the 6th time :/

Youll need dreamup version 1.3.3.4 and connect your null mm cable first with the unit switched off.Once dreamup recognises the box it wil ask you to switch it on....then it will give you the option to flash.
If not try changing the com port number on top of the dreamup box.....also have network unticked and see how that goes.
If it connects just hot flash and browse to your image and choose it,select "no " to flash erase and it'll flash in about 7-8 mins.

Null modem is what you need, sometimes the box takes a while to respond so keep trying it should respond but start dreamup first before you turn the power on the Dreambox.
You could also try other versions of Dreamup but thats probably the most popular.
Another thing avoid them crappy usb laptop convertors and try it on old desktop pc with xp.

yeah im using it on a pc with a rs232 pci card in it, the pc is running windows 7 64bit, is there anyway to check see if this cable is a null or a serial? also how long should i let dreamup run after i turn the box on..i have waited about 3,4 minutes by that time the green light on the box just goes off.

Normally you start Dreamup and wait till it says something like Ping OK you then switch the Dreambox on.If you get nothing within a few seconds try again, and again, and again.
Several versions of Dreamup, also try it with ethernet in and use network ticked or unticked.
With a bit of luck you will get there.
If you have a spare box you can get the connection established and switch boxes.

i have turned dreamup on. nothing about ping or anything has came up, have plugged a ethernet cable into the box and the pc, along with the null cable, nothing, i have picked between the 2 com options nothing. nothing happens when i click connect, have tried it on a working dreambox and the same outcome. i have no idea where im going wrong i have followed everything to the tee. could i be using the wrong cable? i asked for a 9 pin female to female null modem cable. so it shouldnt be the problem? i checked the pci card everything is in order there too.

If you have tried it on another box i would try it on another desktop pc if you can.
Sounds like its not the box its either the pc or cable,
