how to change your dreambox password

hi guys,

a simple and easy why of changing your dreambox 500 password

i am assuming you already have dreambox control centre version 2.96 already set up on you pc/laptop and all green ready to go.

from the dcc start page

press telnet on the left hand side

type in passwd

*you will now be asked to type in a password (this will be your new password) press enter

* Password has to be min 5 and max. 8 letters long letters and numbers!

*type your new password in twice (it will not appear as you type)

1 start dcc v.296
2 type in passwd then press enter
3 type the new password (it will not show on screen) then press enter
4 retype in the new password (it will not show on screen) then press enter
5 exit( next time you start dcc enter your new password replace the default password dreambox)

this will be perfect password hack

You will need putty as well a null modem cable
- connect your dm with a serial/null cable to pc with power off
- connect putty and use serial option to connect to your dm and hit open
- turn on dm and you will see a few messages during boot process
- hit control x repeatedly until the boot and type or complete (of course without quotes "")

"console=null root=/dev/mtdblock5 rootfstype=squashfs ro console=ttyS0,115200 "

and press enter

press ctrl + C

and press enter
type command passwd
then type new root password.

reboot your derambox and then your new password is your root password.
