"Box not reusable" Error with Dream up 500s ?pl advice ...

Hi,

While experimenting with different images i face a problem while reflashing (flash erase)my box 500s clone using dream up.
Last activity done was i tried a multiboot using Flashwizard by mounting an NFS on my PC Harddisk. there was a mutiboot menu created then on DB and can choose the image to boot. I have used the Windows Services for UNIX on my PC for this.
today when i tried to flah erase, dream up reported error saying that Box is not reusable..after repetead try , i finally succeeded to reflash ..i have attempted the mains power on/off rapidly (in fact desparately!!) by keeping the DB stand by switch pressed!!

Can somebody advice me the actual technical parameters here..
do we have to try JTAG on these kind of situations future?
pl share any experience..

Can't advise on your actual technical parameters but from your report it looks like the Jtag route is your only option left, which will give a cure to a corrupted bootloader which does seem likely especially as you don't seem to be able to connect or transfer via Dreamup or FTP. There is good help in the Sticky's and download section for the Jtag procedure if you take that route.

i have had the same problem but it was not nesseserie to use a jtag.(flash incorrect)
use drem up universial (1.3.2.1)with a serial kabel without
the ethernet connection it is slow aprox 15 min.
use a nulmoden cabel with full handshaking or with out handshaking
i believe sticki has a turtorial howe to use dreamup.

hello, i have the same problem... i start dreamup and the box is connecting to the pc but it remain at "waiting for acknowledgement" comment. Flash anfd Flash Erase are disable.

ps. its not the cable, i have flashed a lot of dboxs. the only way is jtag?

No mate, I've had your error many times.

Unfortunately, I'm too drunk to remeber what I did to fix it but it wasn't anything special, maybe I just rebooted or replaced the cable

You definately do not need to JTAG it.

Jtag is probaby the only way ot of this, It usualy happens when people load a few different images onto there dreambox, sometimes its because the image is not compleat or corrupt or has files left over from a previous image, the corrupt image can easly work normaly for you untill you wish to deleat it and try another usualy because the DDC software does not know where to start the erase largly due to certain files is missing or files from something else.

Its advisable to alway get your images from a good fourm and many members having downloaded it before you, then you can see if there have been any issues with the image before you load it.

And finaly if you are trying a lot of different Images to see which one you like the best use erase.img on your dreambox to erase any files left over from a previous Image as this too will result in not been able the deleat your current Image.

jtagging is last resort m8 i wouldnt go down that road yet.
simply download a few versions of dreamup (earlier versions seem to work better for problem boxes ) use network aswell if ur able to as its ALOT faster to flash any image and re-try to flash dk image bud keep trying it will sort it. also i find DCC crap far too many things to go wrong (similer flashwizzard pro is the same ) alot of times peeps over compilcate the dreambox and software

and windos telnet (or maybe putty if u wish )
these are pretty much the ONLY software any dreambox owner should use problems can arrise with these "all in on wonders " pmsl
again prob waisting your time with erase.img as dreamup does infact erase your flash chip twice during flashing

jtag is ONLY for when its a complete no booter ie no lights on at all and no output from hyperterminal!!

dont give up on it ull get it bud

I agree with you not to jump into do a Jtag, but with this situation chandra66 had given information that has has already loaded a few different images & experimenting with different images, so there is no problem with his DDC at least with previous erasing and loading, what has after happening is there are files remaining on the flash from a previous Image or the image at the moment is corrupt, there is nothing that can be done unless you can get Erase.img loaded onto the receiver and because the receiver is not responding via the com port a Jtag is the only way of restoring the receiver back to normal, If of course chandra66 can communicate via crossover lan cable then he might have some chance, but if the image is corrupt the communications setting are unlikely to communicate with a computer even via telnet.

Also to note that the Pli enigma 1 images of late are not desgined for Dreambox Clone receivers they do not contain any bombs such as the Gemini images but Pli do not recommend use of there software other than original Dreamboxes, this image has been desgined to opperate on certain chipsets in the original dreamboxs these chipsets in particular are not however in the clone receiver and will corrupt your dreambox.
