What happens if I reset a DM500s to factory settings?

Hi folks This is the situation:

I have a DM500s and want to reset the root password so I can start playing with it. The person from who I get it from does not know the password. Now i did some research and i found Tuxbox. When i go to the Blue Panel, Addons, Download and install I get a error message:

Error: Server replied 404 not found (url: http://download.blue-panel.com/gemin...0360/addon.xml).

That means i can't download Tuxbox on my Dreambox. I found a option in the menu to do a factory reset. I don't have a null modem cable connection on my pc so i can't flash it that way.

What is gonna happen when i do a factory reset? Do i will keep the gemini image? Will the root password also be brought back to root/deambox. I don't mind if the settings and channels are lost because i want to learn how to install a Dreambox so i was planning to install a Dreambox from scratch. The important thing for me is that i do not end with a dreambox in some kind of safe mode and only be able to flash with a null modem cable.

Currently there is Gemini installed and I think it's version 3.6

You won't lose image, just channels cccam etc. Also user password will become root/dreambox. Go for it mate, won't take long to get it back up and running

try technomate control centre to change password ,i think it will work on dm ,i used it to change a lost password on a vu duo the other day and connected and changed password no problem

Why you dont just reflash it ? quick n easy =)

because he will loose all his settings the box may be set up and working reflash will loose his ccam settings

Magnifor carn't reflash no serial port to use dream up (also does not know password)

Magnifor would also lose all the settings if factory resets

I have never used factory reset always reflashed but as mark8393 says in his post

If the password resets to default password he should be able to flash box using telnet

Thanks folks. I did a factory reset. The image remained indeed. After the reset i flashed Gemini 4.7 with FlasWizard Pro. Thanks for your help everyone.
