    usb external hard drive

    Hi,
I have dm800 hd running on Gemini 5.1 and usb hard drive (WD elements SE 500GB).i can coonect hard drive to my laptop and it work fine but when i connect to dreambox the light keeps blinking and box doesn't recognise the hd. i have tried different suggestion from DK and other forums also tried different images with no luck.
It seems like hd is not getting full power from dreambox usb port.
Any suggestions apart from selling it on e..bay and buy the external power one ..and help .....please
    Thanks

What format is it in? Have you formatted it to fat 32?

Sounds entirely possible, though you'd expect to hear the drive start to spin-up, click, then power down - and repeat that continuously (at least that's what one of mine did on an insufficiently powered laptop). A single USB port is not spec'd to provide all the power that a drive could need from a single port. That's why most USB-powered drives come with a cable that has 2 USB connectors at the "computer" end. Maybe the DM isn't designed to supply the full-spec power from its USB ports?

Alternatively, the drive might not be in a format that the DM recognises.
        Mama's got a Dreambox ...

Probably not drawing enough power from the usb.
Most go with the internal sata drive.
Thats also a good hd if you decide to mod your Wii

You can connect it with double ended usb lead. Connect to both usb outputs on dm and single end to hdd. May give it enough power then
Edit. As dibble pointed out above

you need to install first inside 2.5" sata HDD then you can use usb HDD

thanks for that, but the point is if i install internal then no need of external one.one hd is enough for me. but still i will give it a go to see outcome.
