    Commando 14.4 Neutrino for DM500S

    Commando 14.4 Neutrino for DM500S

Sorry it's taken so long, but the team wanted it as perfect as possible, in terms of user-friendliness and help.

As always, this has been a labour of love from LraiZer, so you know that the main new additions are quality stuff!!!

    WHAT'S NEW?

++ NeuXmlEpg now rebranded as Rytec online EPG and updated to LraiZer's very latest v1.6 as well. (This is to do with more reliability on Rytec EPG download sources). Please read the attached readme for more info and instructions.

++ Radio Times online EPG - This is default and assumes your DM500S is connected to the web. It's gobsmackingly awesome, in terms of speed and functionality. Loads in around 70 seconds, all sorts of options for loading it, and while it's loading, you have a totally normal and fast viewing experience, too! Check out the readme for full details, please!

++ New Commando EPG Wizard menu under the BLUE button (then BLUE again). User-friendly, dynamic and highly intelligent. This menu, and the scripts it calls, show LraiZer at his very best. Everything you could possibly need to know about the EPG options and configuring them is in there...

++ Cosmetic, but nice- more Channel Icons now included. Apart from the first dozen or so Channels, we've now added symlinks to cover the 4 dozen or so Regional Variations of BBC1, BBC2 , and ITV1, including the ITV1 +1 channels. This is easy to grow further on, just read further down in the previous release.

++ More Cosmetics- LraiZer has changed the coloured dot matrix Progress Bars to a much nicer vertical bar variety. Looks very cool...

++ New password: For Telnet access, you shouldn't be asked for a password, coz it already trusts you. But FTP access is a bit more suspicious... For FTP access, the user is root and the password is your first name, between 1 and 16 characters

-- Sad news. Swapfile support is removed, on account it will NOT work in Neutrino DM500S. It's only encoded for DM boxes that have block devices support, like internal / external HDD, which DM500S doesn't have. So it won't work on a mount. Win some, lose some, sorry...

Now sit back and enjoy up to 14 Days EPG for prime Movies, 8 Days EPG for BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4, and Channel 5. Not to mention 7 Days EPG for mainline Sports, 3 Days EPG for prime Entertainment, 1 Day EPG for so-so stuff, and Now 'n Next EPG for the crap.

PLEASE read the readme files, which are also included in the image in /var/tuxbox/config - as these docs will give you a far greater insight into how it all works.

    ENJOY!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Commando 14.3 DM500S (March 2011)

    + The password is now

    ukcvs.org

+ Big thanks to LraiZer for the following enhancements (except where stated otherwise)

+ Satellite Info option in the Infobar- On by default, can be toggled Off in Settings > OSD > Infobar

+ Neutrino-style Progress bars in the Infobar, or pretty Coolstream-style colored dot matrix bars
Default is coloured bars- toggle to the other style in Settings > OSD > Colors

+ A nice workover of the Boot Logo (thanks to Satsearching)

+ Partition Map changed to take 128kb from var and give this to SquashFS root
(But don't worry- we still have a record-breaking 4.0MB writeable var partition!!)

+ The new SquashFS root size is 2,883,584 bytes (0x2C0000 hex) and we have 68kb free in there, for
    future development.

+ Channel Icons active, and one for BBC2 included for starters. If you'd like more, then see Humforce's
post: UkCvs.org - View Single Post - Commando-12-DM500S The icons live in /var/etc/icons and must be
named EXACTLY the same as the corresponding TV channel, else they won't work.

+ LraiZer's very latest neuxmlepg version and Freesat-compatible epg mapping, with the latest Rytec
    multiple random data download sources

+ Plus his bang-up-to-date services and bouquets

+ For mgcamd and evocamd users, the libcrypto file is now embedded in root

+ mkswap support in busybox added at Brandan's request

+ and version info for most popular Softcams is now automatically recognized in the Softcam menu. Oh,
and you don't need to bother to chmod 755 your cam, as the system does this for you!

ps- the top secret password for Telnet and FTP access is now ukcvs.org
Did we mention that already? Oh yeah, we did...

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    Commando v14.2

Filenaming bug in CCcam support fixed

    OSCcam support added and tested

Satsearching's new Keybinding Menu in Settings!! Visible by default now, this has the facility to remap the Volume Keys!!
important: If you decide to remap these keys, you MUST first disable the existing Subservices Up and Subservices Down Keys, by assigning both of these to Key = None

... Then set up your Volume -/+ keys as you want them, and finally the Subservices keys. You'll be using the L/R keys either side of the [OK] button, and the L/R keys either side of the [0] button, as per your own preferences. Mega-thanks to Satsearching for his brilliant work on this!

Another tidy-up in the locals, where we've changed menue to menu and canal to channel and stuff like that.

Big thanks to LraiZer for testing and reporting back on all our foul-ups, which have all been rectified for this new release.

    Commando v14

Now with Usals and Rytec 2 day EPG

compiled from the UKCVS svn which includes fixes to the following

Scan Defaults to 28.2e, if you select another Sat it will save that as the last sat
Compatible driver for clones and Genuine DM500's

This image does not include any Cable support as cable is dead, but does fully support most of the normal Satellite requirements

as usual NO CAMS, KEYS, ROMS ,

all us neutrino users need now is for LraiZer to tweak the binary so it recognizes 256c png Picons).

With Thanks to LraiZer, PaphosAL, Satsearching, Scruff.

and to the Tuxbox boys for the work they have put into porting Neutrino to this fun box, (shame they seem to not continue development, or answer questions anymore)

    New in Commando v14:

USALS (GOTO XX) diseqc support- thanks to Lraizer and Satsearching
Rytec 2 Day XML EPG - thanks to Lraizer
FastZap On-Off control in Driver/Boot Options
New head.ko Driver - thanks to LraiZer (support for alternative user driver to be loaded from /var/driver)
Softcam Status in softcam menu- again thanks to LraiZer
New boot logo - thanks to Satsearching
And, by popular demand, a retro blast from the past (2007 C9) is back. See if you notice it...
    Top-secret Password is still commando
As usual- FTA Only - no keys nor cams. It's a rulez thing

AutoFS (CIFS mount tested) - Streaming - Tuxbox Commander - yWeb I/F - Lemmings - Pacman - Solitaire - Tetris - Vierg (Connect 4) - boot logo - Rytec 2 Day EPG with shellexec GUI - all this and more in C14!!

Despite the old Git's fetish with Free Space, we've enriched the new image with all these features, but have STILL maintained our world-beating 4.125MB megaMaxVar writeable JFFS2 var partition. So a typical user-customized C14 will provide something in the region of 3.3MB of Free Space!!

Anyone wishing to edit the SquashFS root partition with LraiZer's excellent Squazma Tools be warned: Your edited root must NOT exceed 2.752,512 bytes (0x2A0000h) in size!!

Please note that the EPG readmes mentioned in Renny's 14.4 release notes above are included in the Download RAR and can also be found in the /var/tuxbox/config folder, once 14.4 has been installed.

Hi, I've just installed this and must say a big thnx, I love the superb epg.
However as usals it a bit hit n miss I prefer to use manual motor control and this is where I am having problems. Coming from a Pli image I am familiar with driving my dish after selecting the sat and transponder then watching for a lock.
But with the commando manual setup there is no sign of any sat strength meter on that screen, and without a channel already setup on the sat i'm looking for it's almost impossible to know when to stop the dish!

      Am I being a noob? is there a better way? I usually have 28.2e, 19.2e, 16e and 13e
can anyone advise me pls or maybe point me to a backup that I can restore with these sats in place.

      Thanks

Being fixed 28.2E myself, usals is a total mystery area to me. But I've emailed Satsearching with a link to this thread and asked him to pop in and try to help.

It was him who did all the motorized testing and collaborated with LraiZer on the usals coding when it was originally introduced into Commando for DM500S.

There is the option to have signal strength bars and readings on the Infobar, btw. Maybe you switched this feature off?

        Cheers- AL

          Hi thanks for the response,
I've changed the infobar so it does not fade out, but it dissapears when you enter menu anyways. Maybe i'll have to dangle my old meter on the cable and listen for the beeps

best to start your dish fine tuning with a ready made multi sat bouquet set like this one SGTFlipFlop NEUTRINO 22.05.11 (Multi) (commando).rar

if you are not intending to use uslas, then you will first need to assign the stored locations on your motor against the correct sat positions in the Motor Settings menu.

            navigate:
Menu > Service > Service Scan > enable DiSEqC 1.2
you will now have access to Motor-Settings menu.

            navigate:
            Menu > Service > Service Scan > Motor-Settings

if you have 28.2e stored at postion 1 on your motor then change Astra 28.2E from off to 1

if you have 19.2e stored at postion 2 on your motor then change Astra 19.2E from off to 2

            etc...

your motor will now drive to the correct sat positions stored on your motor when channel zapping. now, zap to a channel on a sat that you wish to fine tune.

            navigate:
            Menu > Service > Service Scan > Motor-Settings > Manual-Setup

using the example stored postions above, if you wanted to fine tune the stored position 2 which would be 19.2e, then you would use channel up on remote to set (a) Motor Position: 2 then using vol up/down step motor east or west until the channel you origianly zapped to is up and running in the background behind the motor setup menu. now just press 5, to store the fine tuned motor postion.

That multisat bouquet did the trick, now I have reference points to work with. I think my motor is a bit confused as it refuses to remember sats when I press 5 to save.
No worries I'm moving house in 2 weeks and my dish is going on a patio mount at the new place so i'll default it and start from scratch.

Thanks a lot guys, I've got this bookmarked to use after i've moved.

Don't write off Usals, it works fine once setup, I only use Usals with it and it is fine.

Agreed a bit knunky when setting up, but once done, zapping between channels on different birds is spot on.

Channel Icons package (simple insall) for this image!

It's very nice to see that our new Commando 14.4 for DM500S FTA image uptake here on Digital-Kaos has been so strong. So now it's time to share a cool add-on package with D-K users of this smashing image, to hopefully make it even more appealing, cosmetically!

We present a full(ish) set of Infobar Channel Icons for you, that's simplicity itself to install, thanks to LraiZer's added unzip support in busybox. C14.4 release only had a dozen icons in for the first few channels in the Entertainment bouquet. Plus 4 dozen symlinks for the regional BBC1, BBC2, and ITV1 channels. We decided to expand it...

Thanks to Humforce's earlier work on renaming all the old dBox2 Channel Icons to the (then) Satellite channel names, we have now gone through his package with a fine tooth comb. All the old cable-only channel icons have been stripped out, along with icons for now obsolete channels, like Bravo, Discovery Knowledge, Channel One etc etc.

Many icons were out of date, such as the 5* channel still carried its original Fiver named icon. And CBS Reality had the old Zone Reality icon, and so on... Many new channels had no icon at all. While most of the Sky Movies were the old style, and needed updating with their latest graphics. So over 45 brand new uptodate icons have been created over the past couple of weeks, to really make this package ROCK!

In total, 200+ 'solid' channel icons in neutrino raw 100x60px format are now included in this package, but in addition, there are 48 symlinks for all the BBC and ITV1 regional variations, plus 31 symlinks for +1 channels to use their parent channel's icon. So in reality, around 280 channel icons are now actually covered in this package.

Installation is a breeze- just FTP the attached update.zip installer to your /var/etc/ folder and then reboot the box. Voil?! Job done

Afterwards, if you view the /var/etc/icons folder via FTP, it will report the size of the contents as about 590kb. This is misleading; according to our before / after tests, the actual net payload of this package is a mere 70kb thanks to Neutrino zlib compression on the JFFS2 (var) partition. So you can see that .raw graphic files are highly squashable!

Once again- our thanks to Humforce and LraiZer here. Enjoy, folks!

                    Cheers- AL

Apologies to the 7 guys who downloaded the latest picons package, but LraiZer has reported back with a few schoolboy errors I made in that update.

For example, the picons for Nick Jr. 2 and Sky Arts 1 weren't working due to being slightly misnamed, and I had somehow let the old picons for Sky Living+1 and Sky Livingit+1 slip back in, doh!

All now corrected in the new update in post #10 above.

                            Cheers- AL
