    Dreambox Blue Screen, Green Light

My dreambox 500s turned on this morning, then the screen just went blue (default TV blue screen when their is no input)
The green light is on solid, and doesn't respond when I press any buttons on the remote.

I have changed the scart lead, used the 3 red yellow and green wires. With no joy.

Also changed the power supply. No luck

Am a complete newbie, could someone point me in the rite direction on how to fix this? How do I flash the box? I have a crossover cable if that helps.

    Cheers

    Can anyone help??

I have read the forum a bit, and I have noticed I have to flash the dreambox with a 'null modem cable'

But someone said not a rs232 cable

    Serial Null Modem Cable DB9F to DB9F RS232 1.5m 9-pin female to 9-pin female | eBay

This listing says 'Null Modem Cable, and rs232 in the title.
    Is this the rite one?

Can I flash the box with a crossover cable? I have the IP address for the dreambox written down

Also can anyone recommend a decent usb to serial adapter as I only have a laptop with usb.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks

mate you will be ok with the rs232 cable, and dreamup to flash the box. But be aware you will loose all your settings etc, including your info to connect to any server you are using. So as long as you have copy's of it, you will be fine.

      good luck mate

Try to avoid the usb convertor, I don't have one but, I hear they are troublesome.

I have got the server settings saved on laptop.
What is the best image to use?

My only option is a usb converter, this laptop is all I have got at the moment, can anyone recommend one that works?

Got the null modem cable and the usb adapter from ebay.
Tried running dreamup, it loads but then it hangs with this message ''upload completed waiting for acknowledge''

Then I went around my uncles with the box and the null modem cable and tried it on his old pc (with a com port), it worked.

Just bought an old dell pc on ebay for ?30 in case this ever happens again.

          Everything working again now

well done mate usb to serial adaptors need a driver (put simply a driver is software which helps the pc see the box )without which they wont work and sadly a lot of drivers are incompatable with windows vista .

an old desktop pc is a good option as it has the same 9 pin serial port thats on the back of the box and so all thats needed is a null mode cable ,of course most dream boxes can be flashed via web browser also .

but a dreambox that has difficulties may not be able to be flashed via web browser and in that case a null modem cable will be needed ,so in that sense its worth buying an old second hand desktop and null modem cable they are cheap and can be very usefull .
i love it when a dreambox comes together.
