Hi DOC-X Welcome to Digital Kaos,
The first thing I will say to you regarding your issue is this a brand new Dreambox 500 ? from your post I take it that it is, No Dreambox 500 have been made for well over a year and a half by Dreambox, So you have a clone receiver ! correct me if Im wrong .

The first thing I would do is open the receiver and have a careful look around the main board and clean off any shards of metal that could be inside the receiver touching surface mounted parts (as this is the quality of clone dreamboxes).

Then I would Flash the receiver using Dreambox tools and change the image to something better and see if it happens using another Image.

If everything fails and its new I would send it right back for a replacement unit.

Thanks witchy2k1 & alunfennell for your replys and the welcome.
Yes was just bought in december or november i think.
Worst thing is that he doesnt have paypal so i bought it for him, but wasnt from a trader but just a seller who bought it and then didnt want it.

It came with the Pli Jade software on it and today i flashed it with the Gemini 460 DM500 NObomb clone safe, works ok at the start but then longer its been on then it just goes off and black screen.

Just i dont want to give him it back like this and would rather give him the money back, as even thoe its no fault of mine i do feel responsable.
I`ll cheque it again and clean it and try again tommorow, fingers crossed.
But am still open to options and am greatfull.

Have managed to flash the system again this morning, started to scan hotbird, then went onto astra 1, then jumped up to 28.2 and picture seemed to start to go all flickery while scan in process and then it froze.
Switched off the receiver and waited a while and then tryed again, but now back to black screen ?
Have been told by a friend who chequed the mac address on it that it is coming up as a geniune box.
I have now tryed pli jade & Gemini 460 and this morning the dk_v1.1.
Took the dk_v1.1 no problems but starts off ok but then eventualy went to the bad flickering screen and froze.
Is this box worth getinjg fixed or jtaging or shall i bin it ?

Have you tried a factory reset first?

Ok I have a sugestion for this issue Download and run erase.img for DM-500 this will wipe everything from the Firmware, I am thinking that something could be corrupt and still on the firmware from a previous Image, I have heard that Erase.image has sorted out simular issues for others in the past.

So anoying this

, dam thing wont connect now via the RS lead ahhhhh tryed it about 30 times

I have chequed the box against the clones and geniune on the net on the dream site and low and behold its a geniune one which the guy i bought it off said it was so at least i know its genuine.
Could this connecting problem be my pc ? i have read lots have had issues with connecting via pc with dreamup and to try a few times which i`ve done but no joy now just the black screen but it does come on and i cna see the green light.

Will do a factory reset when i manage to get connected to it if i can, as that might be the problemas i never done that.
Can they be flashed via the ethernet port and pc ? as then i`ll use the Erase.img as have it now.

Done the factory reset and threw on Pli Jade one and scanned sat possision no probs.
Worked fine for the first 20 mins, then started to have audio isses with it breaking up, like a bad signal as such then slowly the picture then it went and frooze on a channel were i was unable to change channels with the remote, bus channel stayed on but with breaking sound and picture.
Powered down the receiver pulled the plug out and waited a minute then back in, and now got black screen again ?
Any one got any ideas as to what is causing this ?
Would flash fix or is it buggered ?

Hi DOC X, I was using Pli.Jade a short time ago and had a similar problem. It looked like a bad scart connection like you described and picture freeze. I went into system settings AV settings and changed from 16.9 to 4.3 and from pal to pal multiroom, this seemed to work for me. I have sinced changed
the Image to Nabilosat Darkstar 2 and have had no problems since. I hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi andy, thanks for the info

After a couple of hours yesterday trying to get it to connect via the pc i managed to downloaded the Nabilosat Darkstar 2 and then when i powered down the box and then plugged it in, walla black screen again......
Its just anoying me now so i think i`ll throw it on fleebay or something as i just cant get it to work right.
Thanks for the help m8, i`ll first look at geting it flashed as think this will do it if anything but only have a starview jtag system, so dont want to spend two much as i`de prefear to buy another.
