how to reset dreambox 500s without loosing your setups ??? please help tahnx in advan

can some one help me please with resetting the rootpassword of dreambox 500s .

i am new to this so please explain in steps thank you !
i dont want to loose my setup or anything installed.
how can i install a different image such as pli so i can watch the dreambox on my laptop in my bedroom in stead of sitting in front of tv in the livingroom.
