    fan inside my 500s ??

hi everybody . As overheating causes many problems to the componenets on the 500s motherboad . i came to the conclusion of installing a fan inside the box so as to cool the pieces inside . but not being a repair-man myself ,i don't know from where one can get the 12 v to have the fan work .in other words where can one solder the red and the black wires of the fan so that it can start cooling the stuff ? the fan shall be fixed to the cover of course and it must be of a medium size to fit inside the box ! i ulpoaded a photo af my open box so that our "doctors" show us where we can solder the black and red wires of the fan. this is in my opinion the best and cheapest way to overcome the problem of overheating !! if you have other suggetions ,they are welcome here !!

it is on a DVD and the place is so tight ! no place for a laptop cooler and no extra external powering sources available ! best source is from inside the box though some claim it would "kill" my PSU !! will it ??

Where the power cable comes into the box, can you not get solder point off the power connection?, i presume your comfortable with a soldering iron.?.

mate I have 3 500s possibly even another one kicking about somewere and been in contact with plenty of others and all clones and never seen or heard of overheating on a 500s. Yes it may get slightly warm to the touch but overheat no.

Woul say if you are having problems with the receiver tell us what they are and we can work out what is wrong with it.

I see no need for a cooler on a 500, if it is overheating then adding a fan isn't a really a cure if it has an overheating fault.

Generally, the external psu is rated at 12v 2A, so adding a 12v fan won't be a great load on the psu, if you really want to go down this route, I wouldn't worry about the load on the psu, buy a better psu if you really must have a fan and your worried about the load on the psu.

A typical small 12v computer fan runs around 140mA so I don't think a small fan would kill your psu.

But look at the root cause if you really think it is overheating, put it in a place where it can breath and some air can circulate as designed.

that 's it man ! that's in my opinion the best way to power the fan without affecting the PSU function ! as for overheating i don't have this issue myself but i read in many posts in other forums that it causes problems to many guys specially with their tuners and Lnb ! so it's the best way to save some money specially for the guys who can't afford expensive modern dreamboxes ( i am one of them ).

I have only seen this as an issue on dm800hd. As people say it has never been an issue on a dm500s. If your dm500 if creating that amount of heat it is probably bin time before it starts an electrical fire.

Can we just confirm it is definitely a dm500 you have?

Fully agree with with the below and other replies above, a normal dm500 should not have heating issues. Are you reading the advice?

As mentioned DM5000 overheating issues is practically unknown.

Earlier 800 clone models are well known for having overheating issues.

My opinion is if its not broken dont fix it.

Fans at the same time can cause damage for instance many a external xbox fan has caused more bad than good. A fan can muck up the circulation.
