Dreambox connection issues

I have a dm500s i need to flash. Its stuck on black screen as i tried to flash with commander image.
I need to connect it to my laptop or desktop to use dreamup to put darkstar back on.
I got a null modem cable from maplins and a usb to serial usb cable and i connected to my l;aptop and it saving installing driver, driver installed.
When i try and use dreamup the com port will not see the dreambox.
I dont have any old legacy pc towers with the serial ports on. Just a fairly new laptop + pc running on win 7.
The question is how do i get dreamup to see the dreambox??

I also downloaded load of drivers off here for usb to serial etc but they all seem for previous windows.

Any help appreciated

I have the CH340 driver installed and looks to be all fine. I have also set it to COM1 but dreamup still not recognizing it. Anyone had any success using a usb to serial + maplins Nikkai null modem cable??
