    DM500 Images

    Hi,

    I got my DM500s today, comes pre loaded with Gemini 4.60. Been reading a little about timebombs included in Gemini, and although I have no idea what they are or what they do, i've read that people suggest different images.

    I've downloaded: pli-Jade3-dm500.img

    I've never set up a dm box before so this will be my first time, is there any difference when doing an initial setup using the different images and would everyone suggest ditching the Gemini straight away and loading this jade3 ?

    I am going to do it via the IP address, then just go to the IP address on the PC and upload the Image, either that or through telnet.

    Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Kevin

    First check if your clone DM500S is actually vulnerable to the Gemini time bomb, using this valuable information posted on UkCvs by Satsearching:

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    The clone bomb works by looking at the mac address, and if it sees one that isn't a known DMM one, then it will brick your box.

    "Genuine" ones start with 00-09-34-XX-XX-XX

    However, a lot of clones are using "Genuine" mac addresses now.

    To see what yours is, telnet to your dm500 and issue...

    Code:

    cat /proc/bus/dreambox
    Here are the results of mine.......

    Code:

    type=DM500
    chipset=STBx25xx
    boardrev=06
    nim=Alps -S
    nimtype=DVB-S
    ethernet=00-09-34-xx-xx-xx
    So, in theory, mine should be bomb proof (but not actually tried Gemini on it).

    Even if yours isn't in the 00-09-34 range, it is possible to change the mac address if you are worried.
