    DM500s Wont Boot

I have a dm500s, more than likely a clone as I didnt buy it long ago. It had Gemini 4.60 preinstalled. I have flashed Pli Jade since and had no problems.

It has been off for a week, I turned it on today and it just gets to the green boot screen and sits there. If I pull network connection out the green screen comes up then it goes black then goes back to green screen continously.

I tried the trick to get the ip address with the front power button but that doesnt work. I dont think tis even getting an ip address.

At present I dont have a null modem cable only the convertor from pc to serial which wont work directly.

What has happened to the boot???

    Thanks

    Kevin

Because these boxes are linux software based your bound to get problems so you might have to reflash.
It isnt hard to do and lots of help off here if you need it.
You will need a null modem cable with dreamup to flash.

ive ordered a null modem cable but will take a week to arrive, can you suggest anything else in the meantime that I can try out.

Just sits on the boot screen, quite frustrating!

Only plugging in and out very quickly or maybe another power supply.
Wouldnt be surprised if you left it off overnight it will work next day.
I would also do some reading on flashing and choosing an image.Pli is a popular choice.

could it be something to do with my home pc?

I mounted part of my hard drive on my pc to use as storage on the dm500 box, is there a way it could be trying to connect to it, failing then giving up and trying again? If so, other than flashing what else could I try?

These are really low budget boxes but great starter boxes.
Reflashing will give you a nice clean box.
They dont have alot of internal memory and using the space up can cause problems.

Wouldn't mind upgrading to a box with time shift, dual tuner, Nicer UI and less buggy, just need to find one at a good price.

Ive a Dreambox 500s and a Dreambox 800hd and to be honest the 500 looks terrible compared to the 800.
For how much they are i cant fault it and theres loads of support.
Theres newer boxes out there with twin tuners etc but i cant fault my Dreambox800hd.

Thanks for your help andy, I took the box with me in to work today where we had a null modem cable, so managed to use dreamup and flash an image to it, I flashed 'Commando Neutrino 14.5' which was released in March 2012, so gone for the newest release really.

Ive now got it booted and have an IP address so have managed to ftp in to the box, looks like I manually have to install cccam, wondering if anyone could PM me a bit of info on where to get it from and how to install.

                  Thanks
