    FLASHING DREAMBOX WITH CABLE

Hi i have a dm500. I have put an image on which didnt work.It goes to boot up but then nothing the image flashes on then off. This has disabled the router side so i cant use dcc for example.I needed to flash using an rs232 cable. The problem is i only have a laptop without a port.I have usb's so i bought a usb-rs232 lead.I have plugged it into my dreambox and powered it up with rs232 side connected.I then put the usb into my laptop and there is nothing.Normally my laptop looks for a driver.I have flashed many times c lines etc putting cams on.The lead i have bought has no manufacturers name so that i cant look for drivers.I read up that i have to open ports etc.My dreambox wont let me put it on standby either.I am using windows 7.Please can someone help me either download a universal driver for rs232 via link or some advice.
    Thanks in advance

if you cant flash your box with the usb to serial adaptor and you cant use dcc then you need to get the use of a desktop computer that has the same 9 pin port that you see on the back of your box .perhaps a friend or family member has one you can use . if you could use dcc you could have tried the root crampfs method but as the box is stuck that wont work ,so really all that will work is a desktop computer .
i love it when a dreambox comes together.

I went through about 4 different combos of usb serials and null modems before got one to work. All the ones that didn't work were from eBay. The ones I got to work were from maplin
