    hi ppl
a mate agve me his dreambox 518s he has had for a year and his cccam line has expired - he no longer has his contact

    so needs me to resovle

it seems the previous installer has changed all defaukt passwords- using DCC i can see all compoonents on the network (green arrows) but cannot log in ftp or telnet

is there any other way to replace the line from the box it self? or how do i change the password?

..factory reset will not remove it..

there is a way of getting round this via a null cable.. the 518 is the same as a 500 really, so if you do a search for dm500 null password [etc] then you should find the info.. I stumbled across it the other day without even specifically looking

..or you could just flash it via null.

sounds more like you will need to reflash the box as the pasward normally protscts the files inside the image worth try

        try this:
You will need putty (or HyperTerminal) as well a null modem cable

        - connect your dm with a serial/null cable to pc with power off
        - connect putty and use serial option (change serial port speed in putty to 115200) to connect to your dm and hit open
-If using Hyperterminal set com port properties to: Bits per Second=115200 ;Data bits=8 ;Parity=none ;Stop bits=1 ; Flow control =Xon/Xoff
        - turn on dm and you will see a few messages during boot process

        Dreambox DM500
        loaded at: 00500000 0060016C
        avail ram: 00501000 02000000

        - hit control x repeatedly until the boot
        at the following prompt...

        Linux/PPC load:

type (of course without quotes "")

        "console=null root=/dev/mtdblock5 rootfstype=squashfs ro console=ttyS0,115200 single"

        and press enter

at this point I received the error [Can't open /proc/bus/dbox.sh] but just ignore it.

once you are at the bash level ( / #) type

        "mount -t jffs2 /dev/mtdblock/1 /var"

        and press enter

        now type passwd
-----------------------you should see the following screen---------------
        Changing password for root
Enter the new password (minimum of 5, maximum of 8 characters)
Please use a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers.
        Enter new password:
        Re-enter new password:
passwd[19]: password for `root' changed by user `root'
        Password changed.
        ----------------------------------------------------
I tested by http to the box and was able to log in.

        I hope this helps

          Hi

If you need any info off box then do as advised by above poster, if info is not an issue and you gonna do things from scratch then easiest would be to reflash via null and dreamup.

Has it got tuxbox commander on it if it has can you access or is it pin protected.

          Regards
