What has going into Standby mode got to do with flashing a new image via DreamUp? Before you start DreamUp, your DM500S needs to be powered OFF at the mains, but connected to your PC with null-modem rs232 serial cable, and (preferably) via ethernet lan cable too, with the box IP address entered into DreamUp, as this is much faster than with serial cable on it's own.
You only apply mains power to the dm500 when DreamUp tells you to!!!
Please remember that the DM500 doesn't have a SHUTDOWN mode like our old friend the dBox2 did. All that Standby does in dm500 is to turn off A/V- all other processes carry on as normal. You can still connect via telnet and ftp, for example, which is no good for dreamup to handshake...
