dm500 JTAG

Ive got a bricked DM500 and I m trying to set up the JTAG
Been reading forum info and have a few quesions which I would be grateful if someone could sort out for me.

1. Which works best a direct connection between LPT and JTAG or with LS245 chip?

2. Does connection using LS245 have to be less than 10cms like direct connection?

3. Where does the VCC 3.3V (pin 20 on LS245 chip connect to?

Anyway to use jtag you need mac address of dm500 but it doesnt say how to get it
It does say to use JTAGdm500.exe -h to find other ways of using progam and it will change mac address on a working dm500 but...
Will this give the mac address of a bricked dm500?

The mac address should be on the label on the bottom of the receiver

never noticed the mac before (tbh never looked)
I had the jtag file and have no problem making it, but the connector has to be no more than 10cms.

There is a jtag using a ls245 chip and I would like to use that if it is better. have you any info on this?

Just one thing in all the info it still doesnt explain what pin 20 on the LS245 chip (VCC 3.8v) connects to
on the dm motherboard ?
or does it mean it just needs any 3.3v input, if so is there one on the mobo?

It would connect to +3.3 volts on the dm500, I could be wrong as I have not used this method but I think most of the ic's operate at 3.3 volt vcc
maybe someone here has built one using this ic?
