Noobie questions about dreambox 500 or 600

Hi guys,

Complete noob here. Got a few questions, hopefully you can help me out.

I'm considering buying a Dreambox for satellite. Either a dreambox 500 or 600.

(1) When I install a new image on the Dreambox to get S*y TV channels, do I need a working sky card in order to watch the channels? Will an old card do? With a nabilo image or some other image installed will the channels still work without a card?

(2) Do I just need to flash a new image onto the Dreambox, then connect the dreambox to my satellite wire from the dish and go through the setup process? Is this all that's required to get the dreambox up and working with lots of S*y channels?

Hopefully you guys can help me out.

1 You need a current working card to receive channels

2 Connect your dish to the box and reflash. You can then scan for channels or download fron internet.

How exactly do you define a working card?

How about an old s*y card? I have an old s*y card from when I had s*y in, but I no longer subscribe. Will it work?

Is there any way i can rewrite my card if I need to?

A card that has been in a sky box lately. If not you will have to put it in to update.

Okay, so let's say I get my old sky card and put it into my friend's sky box, will it update?

Can I then take the card out and put it in my dreambox with the Nabilo image flashed on the Dreambox and I'll get all the channels?

Do I need a sky card in order to get any satellite channels on Dreambox?

How many/what sort of channels can i expect to get in uk with Dreambox flashed with nabilo image, and do I need a sky card to get them? Are any channels available without sky card, if so what kind?

You will not get any channels like sky movies or sky sports unless you subscribe to em mate

You see, I have a friend who has a Eurovox 5000PVR for the cable in the UK (Virgin cable) and he's flashed the firmware and now he gets every channel, including S*y Movies and Sport, Setanta etc.

Is was thinking that the Dreambox 600PVR for satellite, when the firmware was flashed, would give the same results for Sky TV. I appear to be mistaken.

Is this correct?

You are totally correct. There are fair few people going out and buying sat boxes thinking that they will get S*y as they do on cable once they flash the firmware.
