    Erm, bricked 500s?

Tried to flash my DM500s, seemed to work fine, until it came to rebooting the box and now it just sits there with the green light on it, no outpu no nothing.

Have tried to use dreamup but it just sits there saying connection prepaired, now switch on the dreambox.

Bricked or can I try something else?

Are you powering the Dreambox before or after it says Connection Prepared?

After, rs232 cable into pc and dreambox, power out of dreambox, click connect, get the message from DUp to switch the dreambox on but it just sits there with the same message on the screen.

have you put the gemini image if so you may have damaged your bootloader and will have to jtag it to bring it back to life.If you have not used gemini are you using a usb to serial adapter if make sure your com ports are correct

Are you sure its definately a null modem cable, lots of different cables "look" the same.

            WABS!!!

Sorry had to get that out of my system, your avatars rather hypnotic ::

I've tried two cables, one was bought via ebay as a null modem cable, the other cable was one I got with my UPS.
I've tried two machines, both with actual serial ports not usb etc adapters.

I'm thinking this jtag might be the only way to go, been a while since I did some soldering tho, could be interesting :S

              cables

Use your RJ45 cable and find out what your box's ip address is then presto your connected and use FLASHWIZARD_6_3 to flash your box 100%

To check if def a null modam cable, use multimeter and see if pin 2 goes to pin3 on other end and vice-versa! or make one up yourself! others may be crossed but not needed to flash dreambox!

Whups sorry to hear about your DM500. I tried jtagging these some time back but gave up due to the lack of information available.

It seems like when the power light is on and nothing on the display, the bootloader is screwed. Sometimes this happens because of simply "messing" with the power supply. If you keep pulling the power cable in and out, it will wipe the bootloader

You will most likely find that when you connect the receiver with dreamup, nothing will happen! it will not respond.

this is the only problem with these dreamboxes... if you find a way to jtag these, let me know, i would be interested.
