It might depend on the image that it's running but yes, on some you can send a message to the screen. The older PLI Jade image you could.
It also has to have the relevant port open in the router as well. -
You can in OpenPLi via it's web I/F and in Commando 14.6 via yWeb. Just enter the box IP in your web browser and that will get you in.
C14.6 offers two message types as well. One that times out and vanishes after 6 seconds, the other staying on screen until the viewer presses OK or Exit on the remote control.
