    Setting up Dreambox DM500S From Scratch

    I am a Newbie here and as far as Dreambox goes. I have a DM500s and I have the FTA Channels only. I have read vasts amounts of information on this forum, but, it's like, pretty much in a different language which doesn't make any sense to me. Hopefully, someone can explain it to me while I am attempting to set up my dream box.

    Ok. Firstly. I have communication between my PC and my Dreambox using ethernet. In reading in the forum, I've read that you need to "flash" your dreambox. Can anyone explain what that means and what it does and if it is necessary. I have downloaded the files that are on my dreambox to my pc (utilizing DreamBox Edit). Really can't/having problems doing anything else from there. Please assist.

      you need a "null-modem" patch lead(available from fleabay for under a fiver) and a programme called dream-up(availabe in the downloads section) you will need dcc(dreambox control center)for ftp,ing your keys,configs ect. when you have all these items use dream-up to flash a image(clone safe), dcc to ftp your cfg file and keys(if need) and dbedit for uploading channel lists. there should be a tut in the stickies on how to do all this with guides and if/when you get stuck just ask in the dreambox section and im sure someone will help you,regards mdt

          Hi there,
          I bought a dm528s that is still somewhere in China and I'm trying to learn much as I can before I get it....
          If I have a laptop, can I use a null modem cable with usb?
