dm 500S problem

I have a problem with dm500S and dream up. Even though I have connected it to the box with serial cable. it does not communicate with it. The serial cable is working properly. I have Windows 7 64bit I press connect on the program it asks me to turn the box on. in it just stays there. Can anyone suggest options in order for me to flash it.

Thanks for the info. I did in fact followed the guide however I got as far as to connect and turn the Dm500s and it stayed there with no further responses
