Can't get stream from 500s to pc, (confused Noobie)

Hi all,

Firstly, loving this forum, without which I don't think I would of got this far!

I'm running a image from the downloads section (GP 4.2 blueline.. C**am 2.2.1/midar sat ) on a 500s clone.

I've tried the latest openpli image, which I liked, but then realised that openpli images are not clone safe so removed. And Ive tried the very popular Commando 14.6 DM500 Release,
but seemed very uk focused and couldn't figure out how to setup on hotbird which I'm using.

I'ved tried to view through web interface and vlc(version 1.0) but don't get picture or sound.
Have also tried through xbmc (tuxbox streaming settings) but only get sound.

What am I doing wrong? should I have something set on dreambox?
I've set this up for the mother inlaw, but need to be able to stream to a pc so can also watch in her bedroom.

Get the enigma browser up on pc by typing ip of your dreambox.

Click the vpid on the toolbar. (its along from webx option).

Then open with vlc player. Now you should be streaming to pc

However I've tried and doesn't work for me. Don't understand it, could it be the image I've got?

Nope should work fine. Have you tried opening it a second time? As sometimes it doesnt work with 1 click.

Nope, doesn't work, using vlc 0.9.9 now but no difference.

IT WORKS!!!!!

Was hesitant to re flash again as had channels etc all set up and didn't want to go through the hassle again but did and.... IT WORKS!!!! It works through your method and through xbmc(though channel swapping is slightly slow)

used pli-Jade-dm500-maxvar-20090627-6494.rar from this thread

As a bonus the picture looks much sharper too! I had assumed it was just the box being a cheap clone and was going to upgrade when funds allowed but no need now!!!!

And other than some plugins no need to alter channels!!!
