I doubt its the version of dreamup used as i use version 1339 and it works fine on all my different clones no problem, i would say the fact is that your USB to Serial adaptor will not work correctly i am afraid there is no substitute for a real serial port on a computer

Hi Jim,
Its a little Hit & Miss with these USB to Serial adaptors as you can buy one and it works fine buy another and it wont work at all i suppose it comes down to which make works for your box, as you can probably tell there are 100's of different brands available from a certain auction site. If you cant get hold of a PC/Laptop with an onboard RS232 then i am sure someone may notice this thread and have an idea on which brand will work with the DM500.
This thread here: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...serial-205544/ and here: http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...h-help-282865/ suggests using the Maplin bought serial adaptor although the thread is 2 years old so i would imagine that brand may have been and gone but you never know.

Surely (and don't call me Shirley) the answer to all these woes, with newer laptops not having a dedicated 9 pin RS232 port, with its own hardware IRQ, is to buy a PCMCIA RS232 Serial card adaptor from fleabay for under a ?fiver and connect your 9 pin null-modem cable into THAT, rather than effing around with USB/Serial converters that don't grab a proper IRQ?
Simples! Problem solved. A happy DreamUP! (And DreamUP is MUCH faster to flash a new image with, if you also have the LAN connected at the same time, and tell it the IP of your PC (where the new image resides) and the destination IP (your DM500)...
Takes about 2 minutes for my 500+ DreamUP exercises through Commando dev, rather than the quarter of an hour with serial cable only, LOL!
